Rising 6th and &th Graders Advance Math Updates for the 24-25 School Year
Dear 6th & 7th Grade Parents,
Socorro ISD continues in its commitment to provide all students with opportunities to prepare them for college and career readiness. In accordance with Senate Bill 2124, students entering 6th grade shall be enrolled in advanced math courses to prepare them for Algebra I in 8th grade. The pathway for advanced math is as follows:
- In the Advanced 6th-grade Math program, students will primarily focus on 6th-grade math concepts while also delving into some 7th-grade Math standards. Additionally, 6th-grade students will take the 6th-grade Math STAAR assessment at the conclusion of their 6th grade academic year.
- In the Advanced 7th-grade Math program, students will focus on the 8th grade math standards and cover a portion of the 7th-grade standards. At the end of their 7th-grade year, 7th-grade students will be evaluated through the 8th-grade Math STAAR assessment.
- 8th grade students will be taking Algebra I, which is a high school credit course.
The pathway is set up for your child to be successful after high school. Our goal is to challenge them intellectually in their high school math classes while making sure they feel fully supported through the pathway and don't feel overwhelmed or discouraged. Math achievement is the best predictor of future academic success, and we are committed to helping all students reach their full potential.
Please be on the lookout for additional information. Should you have any questions, please reach out to William D. Slider Middle School SCEI Coaches at 915.937.5400.
A Message From Our Counselors
Congratulations! Your Eighth Grade Scholar will be honored on Wednesday, May 29th at William D. Slider. Please make plans to attend our End of Year celebration. It will begin at 1:30 pm in the gym. Be sure to bring a valid ID to enter the building.
We want everyone to be able to view and enjoy the event, that is why we are not allowing balloons and noise makers. We are asking that students wear their Sunday best and follow district dress code.
Sixth and seventh grade scholars receiving an accolade will be receiving an invite for the ceremony. Invites will be going out by the end of the week.
Thank you,
School Counselors 💚💙

The attendance incentive plan will begin on Monday, March 25 and end on Thursday, May 23rd. All students can qualify to place a weekly perfect attendance ticket into their grade level bin each Monday during lunch.
