May/June 2024 Newsletter - Jack London Elementary School
The End of 2023-2024 is right around the corner!
Greetings, Jack London Families,
It is hard to believe that the end of the year is coming up on just a few short weeks. Please read all the way to the end of this newsletter for all relevant announcements and information for the rest of this school year and looking ahead to 2024-2025!
We recently celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week and are in the middle of Classified School Employee Week, where we are celebrating all of our classified staff members. We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our hard-working, passionate Jack London staff members for all they do every day to support our students and our school.
As the year comes to a close, we'd like to thank all of our Jack London parents/guardians for their involvement and support of our school. Educating our students truly takes teamwork, and the partnership between home and school is so important and necessary!
We are still looking for parents to join our School Site Council (SSC) and our English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)! Please call/come to the office if you are interested in joining either group, and be on the lookout for new nomination forms in the Fall, after the new school year is underway.
We have one final Parent Meeting to review and discuss Title 1 Funding and Supports, on Wednesday, May 29th at 3:00pm on Teams. We hope you will join us: Join the meeting now or +1 657-201-8845,,120248747#.
Have a wonderful end-of-the-year and a wonderful summer ahead!
Thank you,
Dr. Roat & Ms. Torres

PARKING LOT – ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL
We have a large number of students arriving and departing each day. Please do not park in the drive-through lane nor behind parked cars in the parking lot (blocking them in) at any time. If you need to park and leave your vehicle, please use designated parking spaces or street parking. "Traffic control" is not always an enjoyable responsibility, so parent patience and positive attitudes are always appreciated.
In order to ease parking lot congestion and provide a safe environment during drop-off and pick-up times, please adhere to the following procedures:
1. Parents must park in a designated parking space or on the street if they plan to exit their vehicles.
2. Students are to be dropped off and picked up in the right lane only.
3. Students must exit from the right side of the vehicle.
4. Parents must park on Country Hills Drive rather than dropping students off in the middle of the street.
5. Please drive slowly and carefully in the parking lot and near the school, adhering to all parking lot and road rules, including stopping for students/families at crosswalks.
Morning Arrival:
- Breakfast students can arrive beginning at 7:30am in front of school, outside the gate near the cafeteria.
- Non-Breakfast students should not arrive until 7:45am. Non-breakfast students who arrive early will be supervised in the cafeteria until 7:45am.
- The Bus Circle on Country Hills is reserved for students in Special Day Classes, as well as AUSD buses and approved daycare vans/buses.
- Preschool and TK students are dropped off in the top parking lot each morning, up to 15 minutes before school begins.
Afternoon Dismissal:
- Bus students, approved daycare students, and students in Special Day Classes are dismissed at the back gate, near the Bus Circle.
- Preschool and TK students will be dismissed from the top parking lot every day. On minimum days, older siblings will be directed to join them at the top parking lot.
- All other students will be dismissed at the flagpole in front of the school every school day.
- Students who are walking home are expected to exit campus and walk home at dismissal.
- Students who are not picked up by 2:45pm (1:20pm on Wednesday; 11:30am on minimum days) will be in the flagpole/office area, and parents/guardians will need to come into the office to sign them out.
SCHOOL VISITORS
All visitors are required to report to the school office upon arriving at campus. Classroom visits must be arranged in advance and have prior approval from the classroom teacher. Parent/guardian volunteers sign in and receive their volunteer badges in the office. Please avoid lengthy conferences with the teacher during such visits so the teacher can conduct class as usual. Students from other schools, or siblings of Jack London students, will not be permitted to visit during the regular school day.
Please note that volunteers/visitors may have their visiting privileges limited or revoked if the classroom teacher, principal, or principal’s designee determines that the individual’s presence in the classroom, or on campus, obstructs, interferes, or disrupts the classroom or school environment.
SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS
Many enriching and worthwhile experiences are afforded our children through volunteer help from parents/guardians. With this support, teachers are able to provide more direct instruction. Parents/guardians interested in volunteering time and services are requested to contact their child’s teacher. We encourage our parents/guardians to visit and volunteer in classrooms; however, please leave young children/siblings at home as they are a distraction to students in the classroom. Parents/guardians are not expected to discipline students as that is the job of the staff member. All volunteers sign a Volunteer Code of Ethics before working in a class or with students.
Please note that volunteers/visitors may have their visiting privileges limited or revoked if the classroom teacher, principal, or principal’s designee determines that the individual’s presence in the classroom, or on campus, obstructs, interferes, or disrupts the classroom or school environment.
Medication Reminder
As a reminder, for all students' safety, students may not carry medication of any sort with them including over-the-couter allergy medication, aspirin, or even cough drops. If you would like to have medication available for your child, please contact the office regarding our procedures for this. Thank you!
TK and Kindergarten Enrollment
Returning Students; Registration; Transfers - 2024-2025
Returning Students:
For students returning to Jack London next school year, we will have our annual Registration Day on July 31, from 8:00-10:00am and 4:00-6:00pm in the cafeteria. This is a required day for all new AND returning students, as this is when you submit new paperwork for the upcoming year (such as Emergency Cards, Technology Permission Slips, etc.). Please plan to come to Jack London that day to submit your yearly, updated paperwork. Once you have submitted all of your paperwork, you will receive your child's classroom teacher name for 2024-2025!
Moving?
If your child is not returning to Jack London for 2024-2025, please let the office know as soon as possible.
Overflow Students:
Students who do not live within our attendance boundaries and do not have an approved intra or inter-Ditrict transfer will automatically be assigned to their home school site for next school year. This includes "overflow" students who do not have an approved intra-district transfer on file.
Information on transfers can be found here at the links below:
