Some Notes on Grading and Reporting
Grading should promote the following:
Meaningful feedback on student achievement to students, parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and the school system.
Accurate reflection of student achievement outlined in MCPS curriculum.
Fair representation of a student’s performance on a variety of measures over time.
Clear and timely communication to parents/guardians and students as to the grading criteria.
Accurate and precise records that support reported achievement.
Consistency within and among schools.
Opportunity for students to demonstrate mastery through a variety of methods.
Collecting evidence of student learning in a variety of ways over time within a grading period.
No single task/assessment should count for more than 25 percent of the marking period grade.
When submitting grades at the end of the marking period, if a teacher has evidence that a student demonstrates a different level of performance than a calculated grade, the teacher may recommend forcing of the grade down with approval of the principal. No approval is required to force a grade up.
When using points or percentages, a teacher may not assign a grade lower than 50 percent to the task/assessment with the following exceptions.
If a teacher determines that the student did not attempt to meet the basic requirements of the task/assessment, the teacher may assign a zero. However, teachers and PLCs are expected to develop appropriate and supportive responses when a student does not initially attempt to meet the basic requirements.
If a student does no work on the task/assessment, the teacher may assign a zero. However, teachers and PLCs are expected to develop appropriate and supportive responses when a student initially does no work.

AP and IB Registration - Please remind your kids...even if you don't teach AP or IB
Registration for AP Exams is open until Friday, November 1. IB registration ends on Monday, November 4.
Advisory Pass Reminder
Students may NOT leave a classroom without a completed General Use Slip as their pass (for Advisory or at any other part of the day) even if they are just going to the restroom. ALL parts of the pass must be filled out.
We have been conducting Advisory Hall Sweeps and have noticed that many students are getting swept up having incomplete passes- no name or no time or no date or no teacher signature etc.)
Thank you in advance for help.
