News From the Principal
Dear AES Patriot Families,
Boy, did the month of December sneak right up on us, and it's that time of year again. Yes, you guessed it, the🎄Annual Tree Lighting - The winner of the tree lighting is Ryan P. The tree lighting will take place on the Ashby Commons at 4 P.M. on Sunday December 8th.
The month is short, and we have lots happening. Next Wednesday, December 11th, is a half day. The students are being dismissed at 11:35. The teachers and I are heading to the high school to attend a training on Working with Multilingual Learners.
⛄The weather has turned slightly colder, and I recommend wearing a coat, hat, and mittens/gloves every day just in case our playground is cold. I am still seeing kids wearing short sleeves with just a sweatshirt. We try to go out daily unless the temperature is below 20 degrees, and the wind chill does play a large part in if we go out.
Speaking of cold weather - did your kid(s) tell you the special event this week. We waited for the first snowfall of the season to challenge the whole school to make the tallest snowman as a class. The 2 winning snowmen tied for 1st place - 4th grade Rixford and Walsh at just shy of 6 feet tall. Cote's 3rd grade class came in 2nd place at 4 1/2 feet. #Bestfirstsnowfall
Today it was too cold for Kindergarten and First grade to go out for recess. Please be sure to send your student in with winter gear for recess.
We have been informed that cups will no longer be supplied for gym class and the lunch room. If your student needs to drink water during the day, please send them with a (reusable) water bottle.
Habits of Character. As October and November come down we are switching it up. Each classroom will award a standout student in each category: Respect, Responsibility, Kindness, and Courage.
As we enter budget season across the district, I am gathering information on incoming kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year. If you have a child who will be five by 8/31/24, please email me so I may double-check and ensure you are on my incoming list.
If you are cleaning out your closets or pulled out the winter jackets and they are too small please consider donating them to our annual Coat drive. Our number is slowly climbing up and we have 47 so keep them coming!
Around this time every year we send out annual grade level letters requesting items for the holiday baskets to give to families in need. This year we are only seeking new hats and mittens/gloves for ages 7-17 years of age, by next Tuesday, December 10th.
🚌For the past month, AES has been collecting various items for Fill the Bus (NMRSD) for our families in the district. Currently the staff boxes are beating out the kids boxes, so keep those items coming. The bus is coming to AES to be stuffed with all the donated items on Monday, December 16th in the afternoon.
This next section is for parents of students in Grades 1-4 only.
Report card grades are in the student portal.
How to Access Student Information For Report Cards:
Electronic Report Cards for Grades 1-4 students will be posted in the Aspen portal on Friday, December 2nd. You must have a family portal account to access student information, including report cards. If you do not currently have an account, the necessary steps to create an account are below. If you have other questions, please refer to the NMRSD page (https://www.nmrsd.org/familyportal) or email (aspen@nmrsd.org) with any additional questions.
If you have any concerns, questions, or comments, please do not hesitate to reach out (agapp@nmrsd.org).
If your student is going to be absent for any reason, please remember to call the absentee line at 978-743-1006. Please leave your student's name, homeroom teacher, date, and reason for the absence.

🚓Reminder from the Ashby Police Dept regarding Parent Drop off/Pick up. When the school bus stop sign is extended - you have to stop immediately.
If anyone would like to make a little pocket money, please consider applying for our open substitute positions at our school. We appreciate it!
If AES is to have a Book Fair, we will need volunteers. Volunteers will be needed both Wednesday, March 12 8am - 7 pm and Thursday March 13 from 8-3:00 PM. If that works in your schedule please reach out to me at agapp@nmrsd.org. So far, we have only had one parent volunteer, so we need a couple more folks.
