The Lister Oscars
In a night filled with anticipation and celebration, Lister School held its first and what will be annual awards ceremony. The glittering event, hosted by the dynamic duo of Mr Bashir and Mr Dos Santos, saw both academic excellence and the embodiment of Lister's values recognized.
Each curriculum area proudly presented its nominated winners. The suspense hung thick in the air as curriculum leaders stepped forward, holding golden envelopes that held the names of the students who had impressed them most throughout the year. The reveal was a delightful surprise for each winner, as they were completely unaware of the recognition coming their way.
Beyond academic achievements, the ceremony also shone a light on students who exemplified the very core of Lister School. House teams proudly presented their own set of awards, recognizing students who consistently upheld the school's values. This special recognition highlighted the importance of well-rounded individuals who thrived not just in academics, but also in character.
The night was a testament to the dedication and talent of Lister's students. It was a beautiful blend of academic achievement and the celebration of the values that make Lister such a special place to learn and grow.
The evening culminated in a prestigious honour. Alumni, seasoned veterans of the Lister community, gave speeches and read poetry to inspire the current students of Lister to reach for the highest stars in their potential. These alumni exemplified the very essence of Lister: aiming for excellence an embodiment of all the school holds dear.
Finally, Ms. Clay, the head teacher, and the chair of governors took centre stage. After a night filled with recognition, they presented the ultimate awards. The distinguished honours went to the students who, throughout the year, had truly represented the best aspects of the Lister community – a testament to both academic achievement and the values that make Lister such a special place. The ceremony concluded with a sense of shared pride and a renewed sense of belonging within the Lister family.

Basketball News
Last week the U14 Boys and U16 boys and girls attended the Final 4s of the Greenhouse Basketball League and Cup. The U14 Boys went in undefeated across the season with high hopes of bringing home the title. After a dominant 19 point win against Bacons College UCL awaited. Behind a strong team defensive performance and some moments of magic from Deimontas (H5) and Yanai (H7) we came away with a 13 point win.
Today the Boys were able to take part in the time honoured tradition of cutting down the nets at Lister with each member of the team (those that attended and those who have supported training) getting a piece of the net.
Unfortunately the U16 were not so lucky with our girls losing both their games despite the efforts of Sophia (Y11). The U16 Boys made it to the Final after a strong win against Westminster Academy. In the Final we came up against a formidable Bishops Stopford team a solid start saw the team entre the half down by 8 however a lacklustre 3rd quarter saw us drop further behind, throughout the 4th the team never gave up winning the final quarter 15-2 Fuelled by Malakai's (S10) barrage of 3 pointers, however it wasn't quite enough to recover the deficit seeing the team take 2nd place.
I would just like to say thank you from myself and on behalf of all the players for the support the school has given across this first season of Lister Basketball and I hope this is the start of more to come in the coming years.
World of Work Week 2024
Our Year 10 students had an incredible time exploring various career paths during our annual World of Work Week.
Monday kicked off with a full day of engaging workshops led by professionals from diverse fields. We were thrilled to welcome a writer from the New York Times, a cancer researcher from the NHS, associates from the leading construction company Kier, representatives from universities including Staffordshire and North Eastern and many more! Students developed their communication during workshops on interview skills, sessions on the use of British Sign Language and on debate!
The rest of the week was filled with exciting trips to workplaces and places of higher education. Some of our students had the chance to visit the leading structural engineering firm AKT II and meet one of the founders—fun fact: AKT II is the firm that built our very own Lister School!
Others had the opportunity to explore UCL and the Bartlett School of Architecture, The London College of Fashion and North Eastern University, to name a few, giving them a glimpse into the world of higher education and innovative design.
To cap off this fantastic week, MP Sir Stephen Timms gave an inspiring talk on Friday about his journey into politics, sharing valuable advice for anyone interested in public service.
A huge thank you to all the professionals and organizations that participated, and an extra special thanks to our dedicated staff who ensured everything ran smoothly.
World of Work Week was a resounding success; we can't wait to see our students do well in Year 11 and witness the amazing paths they take in the future!
