Cub Happenings
January
Happy New Year Cubs!
Welcome back! While the weather may be a bit chilly outside, inside our school we will be filled with warmth as we welcome students back from the winter break. We hope each and every one of you had a fantastic time with family and friends. We are excited to begin the new year with our Cubs. As we reflect on our fall semester, we are proud of the progress and success each of our Cubs demonstrated as they collaborated with peers during science labs, followed their curiosity through student-led research, and met goals by learning all their sight words and math facts.
We are so grateful to serve all the students, parents, and staff who bring joy to us on a daily basis. We are ready to make 2025 another year filled with success, but we know that this requires us all working together- students, teachers, staff, families, and administrators. Working together, we can ensure every student has a successful year!
How can you help?
Ask your child what his/her goals are and recognize your child's efforts toward their goals
Get involved as much as you can. We value parent involvement and offer many opportunities. Please join us for Paw Pals or Watch Dogs whenever you can.
Praise your child when they demonstrate one of our 21st Century/STEM Effective Learner Skills
Effective Learners:
Are Persistent
Are Curious
Problem Solve
Are Reflective
Are Risk Takers
Collaborate
We look forward to seeing you at our January and February events.
Cub Hugs,

Lost and Found: Help Coats Find Their Way Home!
As the cooler weather continues, we’ve noticed an increase in jackets and coats being left behind on campus. Our Lost and Found is quickly filling up! We encourage you to take a moment to check the Lost and Found the next time you are on campus. You might just find a missing item your child has been looking for!
The Lost and Found is located in the volunteer room near the front office. Any unclaimed items will be donated on January 17. Thank you for helping us ensure these items make their way back home.
Weather
As temperatures drop, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the cold weather. We plan to go outside for recess, but your child must wear a coat and/or layers to stay warm and comfortable. As a general guide when the temperature including wind chill is 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below, there is no outdoor play.
Thank you for helping us keep everyone cozy and ready for fun outdoors!
THANK YOU Volunteers, PTO, & Teachers!
Students also loved participating in our annual sing-a-long and Literacy Day activities. It would not have been possible without our PTO, Mrs. Mason, Mrs. Rodriguez, Mrs. Marquez, Ms. Bauman, Literacy Committee, teachers, and Watch DOGS. Thank you!

How Can I Help My Child Learn at Home
All third quarter Family Curriculum Guides have been added on the Klein ISD website for grades K-8 for core content in English and Spanish. These documents include the following topics:
What will my child learn during the third quarter of school?
Questions to ask your child
How can I help my child learn at home?
Tools for success
Technology Available for Home Use
The student dashboard is available for your child to access at home.
- Progress Learning (All content areas)- Specifically targets your child's learning gaps. This was determined using a pretest. Some teachers have also created specific learning pathways.
- Amira (Literacy development)- AI-powered reading tutor designed to improve literacy and foundational skills. Amira tailors its support to meet your child’s individual needs, which is why it’s important for your child to complete Amira activities independently.
While it might feel natural to want to assist your child during these sessions, providing help can unintentionally affect the results. Amira works best when it can accurately identify areas where your child might need additional practice. If an adult provides answers or guidance, it could skew the results and miss opportunities to fill in critical learning gaps.
Use 10 minutes a couple days a week. - Lexia (Literacy development)- Encourage your child to use Lexia consistently for 15–20 minutes a couple days a week to reinforce skills.
- Waggle (Math)- Helps students strengthen their math skills. Encourage your child to use Waggle regularly (e.g., 15–20 minutes two times a week) to maintain steady progress and reinforce learning. Recognize and celebrate the milestones your child achieves in the platform to boost confidence and motivation.
SMART Tag Parent Portal
Through the app, parents will be able to: View Child’s profile, routes, and riding history. Add/remove children to and from the account. Sign up for SMART alerts (text notifications when the bus is 10-15 minutes from the stop and receive status updates). Manage authorized guardians.
How it Works: Parents register online at https://parent.smart-tag.net, add their children using the student ID, date of birth, and campus name. Parents can sign up for SMART alerts which is optional.

5th Grade Intermediate School Visit
Fox Elementary fifth grade students will have the opportunity to visit the intermediate school in which they are zoned. The visits will take place on February 19 (Hildebrandt) and 20 (Schindewolf & Krimmel). Students will depart Fox Elementary at 8:45 a.m. and will return at approximately 10:45 am. This visit is for students only.
While at Hildebrandt, Krimmel, or Schindewolf students will hear presentations from the Theatre Arts, Band, Art, and Choir departments. The purpose of the visit is to expose students to the intermediate environment and to help students make informed decisions for next year.
Permission slips were sent home in December, please be sure to return them to your child's teacher.
Parent Meeting
Each Intermediate School will be hosting an event for incoming 6th graders and their parents. At this event, students and parents will have the opportunity to meet teachers and receive more information about their classes, clubs, electives, and more! Please be on the look-out for emails and flyers with each intermediate campus date and time.
Krimmel Intermediate Parent Course Selection Night
If you have questions about which intermediate school
your child will attend, reach out to Fox's front office or your child's teacher
Attendance Matters
Daily attendance at school can be the difference between a child progressing with learning or not. It is important that your child arrive at school between 7:45-8:00. Students are considered tardy at 8:10. Please remember to let the office know when your student is absent and submit a note through Skyward Family Access within five days of the absence.

Valentine's Day Party, Card Exchange, & Fun Run
We’re excited to invite you to join us on Friday, February 7, for the Fun Run and class Valentine’s Day parties! We’re looking for at least two room moms or dads from each class to host the parties. As a party host, you’ll collaborate with your child’s teacher to plan a fun activity, such as a game or craft, for the class to enjoy. You’ll also assist with distributing snacks and leading the activity. Our fantastic PTO will provide cookies and juice, so there’s no need to bring additional food. If you’re interested in helping, please sign up by January 13th at https://bit.ly/FoxPartyHost. Please note that room moms and dads must be approved volunteers. Be sure to complete the Klein ISD background check to take on this role. Thank you for helping us make this a memorable day for our students!
Planning to Attend the Fun Run and/or Valentine’s Party:
If you plan to attend, please RSVP by Tuesday, February 4 at 10:00 PM. Scan the QR code or go to https://bit.ly/FoxFunRun to RSVP. Guests who RSVP will use the express lane to present government-issued ID and pick up a visitor’s badge.
Our Cubs will have a Valentine's Day party/card exchange on February 7. Our amazing PTO will provide a snack and juice for students . You may send Valentine’s Day cards for your child to pass out to classmates. You can also send goody bags with non-food items, such as stickers, pencils, spirit sticks, crayons, trinkets, or erasers. If you plan to order items such as cupcakes, please coordinate with our campus nurse asap as this process usually takes about weeks to approve.
We respectfully request that you comply with our procedure of not sending candy or food items for your child to pass out to their classmates. It is very heartbreaking and difficult for students to understand when they are not allowed to pass out Valentines or goody bags containing candy. We have several students with food allergies and don't want to put our young Cubs in the position of having to make a decision about whether they can eat a food item given to them by a classmate. Thanks for understanding and complying with this campus procedure.
Please be on the lookout for a flyer in the Wednesday folder with information about early Cub pick-up.
