The year started off with a bang! We kicked off January with Kinder Round Ups across districts. It was so exciting to see RootEd Reps planning the event with their Principals and then to see the joy in the preschoolers faces! We had the opportunity in February to join the League of Women Voters and North East Council PTA to help Raise Your Hand Texas put on an education forum for House District 121. It was great to hear the candidates taking education seriously!

RootEd had the privilege to be interviewed by Teressa Lowrance for her podcast. It was so nice to chat about our WHY. We’re starting our 3rd year and it’s so valuable to go back to our roots.

The 2020 Census

The 2020 Census is an important resource for the government to use to allocate vital resources in education. The Census Bureau provides information on a variety of educational topics, from educational attainment and school enrollment, to school costs and financing. They collect information from individuals regarding their school experiences, and directly from schools or the government agencies that help manage them. These data are used to keep track of changing educational qualifications of the population by age, sex and race, and other characteristics, and are used by schools, governments, businesses and the public.

Primary Election day is March 3rd!

Once you vote, here are some ways to help others be voters too.

1. Wear your “I voted” sticker proudly.

2. Take a selfie with your “I voted” sticker and post on social media.

3. Tag @TxEdVote and use the hashtags #Vote, #Txed, #Txlege, and #TxEdVote


You can now vote anywhere in Bexar County for ELECTION DAY!

House District 121 Candidate Forum

A few weeks ago, RootEd along with North East Council PTA, League of Women Voters helped Raise Your Hand Texas put on an education candidate forum for District 121. We had a wonderful turnout! All of the candidates vocalized their opinions on the state of education in Texas and how they can make it even better. We appreciated the participation of the candidates, moderator NISD Superintendent Dr. Woods and student performances by Tex Hill Middle School and Northwood Elementary students. It was a great night for education in Texas!

RootEd Hashtags

The RootEd hashtag system is a way for parents who are shopping for schools to look at all the cool things going on at a school. They go to the search option on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and type in #RootEdNameOfSchool ex. #RootEdOakMeadow


We have found that this is the easiest and best way for parents to see what's going on from actual parents instead of just listening to rumors. It also allows parents to compare schools across district lines.


We are asking reps, principals, staff and parents to add it to their stories. We need to share the stories of our amazing schools. It's time to start bragging, our schools deserve it!

Butterfly Release

Steubing Rep Vikki in NISD is awesome and consistent in posting about her school to social media. This is a great example of a pic she posted about her class studying the life cycle of a butterfly for the science curriculum. Vikki really gets how important it is to brag about her school!

An Encino Park story

Staff at Encino Park in NEISD shared their story with RootEd about their students using Ozbots and coding to learn about technology and the brain as they read the novel, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. Students were tasked with creating a maze for the rats, just like the neuroscientists created in the book. Students created a maze for their Ozobot "rat" to lead it from the start line to the finish line using different color codes. The 3rd graders not only enjoyed this task, but made great connections to the novel with the help of coding.


This is a great example of sharing a story of an exciting moment in a student's day.

SWISD Kriewald Elementary

So awesome to see Kriewald Rep, Annie, posting about her amazing school in SWISD. She shared on facebook about her daughter's 100th day of school...showing her friends that her school is a great place to be!

RootEd out in the Community

RootEd Rep Spotlight: Jennelle Berger

Jennelle Berger is the RootEd Rep for Oak Meadow Elem in NEISD. She has truly been instrumental in many of the events that RootEd has created. Jennelle helped create the RootEd elementary event calendar and has been a driving force in our Kinder Round Up plans. We are very lucky to have Jennelle as a part of RootEd.


"I've always been passionate about community and education so jumping on board with RootEd after hearing their mission was a no brainer for me. It's so important to be a voice to share about all the amazing things happening in our neighborhood schools and to connect incoming families to our school community. With overwhelming choices and all the misinformation out there it's essential for families and staff at our neighborhood schools to brag about the achievements, projects, activities, learning styles, and teacher involvement...basically all the truthful positives happening. We have been so happy with Oak Meadow Elementary and all the opportunities our boys have there to pursue interests from art to music to robotics. It has a very liberal arts feel which I love since it allows students to sample different interests. The teachers and staff are all-in when it comes to building the community too from chairing clubs to volunteering at events. I'm grateful for the community RootEd has built among the reps and the training they provide to empower us to be a voice for our schools."
