The School Social Work Association of America is proud to promote National School Social Work Week, held the first full calendar week of March (Sunday - Saturday). SSWAA collects and shares resources to help you celebrate and promote School Social Work Week. Georgia's own Dr. Terriyln Rivers-Cannon has been named National School Social Worker of the Year, by the School Social Work Association of America. Dr. Rivers-Cannon is a School Social Worker in the Atlanta Public School System. She will receive her award during the School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA) annual conference in Orlando, on April 5th, 2019. Let's congratulate Dr. Rivers-Cannon on receiving this award and for the outstanding work she does as a School Social Worker!

The Online Trauma/Brain 101: Understanding the Impact of Trauma on Children/Youth and Brain Development course is available to educators. Directions for accessing the Online Trauma/Brain 101 are located here.

Instructional Hours: 3 CEUs: 3 hours MSW (core), LPC & LMFT (related), and DECAL

Course Description This online course will provide participants with foundational knowledge about child trauma, child traumatic stress and how adversity and trauma can impact children and youth and their brain development. Participants will also be introduced to brain architecture and early brain development in children and youth.

Awards grants of $250 to $5,000 through Walmart stores, Sam's Clubs and Logistics facilities. Eligible nonprofit organizations must operate within the service area of the facility from which they are requesting funding. The 2019 grant cycle begins February 15, with an application deadline of December 31. An application may be submitted at any time during this funding cycle. Please note that applications will only remain pending in our system for 90 days. Apply here.

Dramatic Writing for Film, Television, and Theatre I

Dramatic Writing for Film, Television, and Theatre I, is a new English Language Arts requirement option for our state. In May 2018, this game-changing ELA/Fine Arts course was approved by the State Board, USG, and TCSG as an ELA graduation requirement option AND Fine Arts elective credit for ALL Georgia high school students in Georgia! This brand-new course will expose and train students to work in the $9.5 billion dollar film industry (and growing!) here in Georgia.
