Important information from Bowie ISD
Bully Awareness
In conjunction with Red Ribbon Week each campus did lessons and awareness on bullying. Bowie ISD investigates all bullying and cyberbullying situations using the BISD Bully Checklist. This checklist can be found on the BISD Website by clicking on families in the right-hand corner and then finding the Anti-Bullying page.
This page was created to be transparent to all stakeholders on the definition, flowchart and process we use to determine bullying in our schools. We encourage you to partner with us in helping educate your children on bullying and how being kind and compassionate to others is the best way to stop bullying.
You can report bullying using our Say Something/ See Something - BOJO Tipline.
National Bus Safety Week in October
In October, BISD transportation team visited the campuses to educate students on bus safety and expectations.
To learn more about BISD bus expectations and behavior consequences check out our transportation page: https://www.bowieisd.net/page/transportation
There is also bus safety for all community members on the following website that explains school bus laws in our state.

Evacuation Drill
Our school has adopted The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). This month we would like to explain one of the 5 protocols we have in BISD. An Evacuation would be used for a fire, mechanical failure, gas leak, or bomb threat when we need everyone to get out of the building. In the event of an Evacuation the following protocol is in place on all campuses.
EVACUATE “To a location”
Students are trained to:
- Leave stuff behind if required to
- If possible, bring their phone
- Follow instructions
- Bring roll sheet and Go Bag (unless instructed not to bring anything with them, dependent on reason for evacuation.)
- Lead students to Evacuation location
- Account for students and adults using our Navigate App

RAISING MENTALLY STRONG KIDS
Mentally strong kids are prepared for the challenges of the world. They’re able to tackle problems, bounce back from failure, and cope with hardships. Mental strength isn’t about acting tough or suppressing emotions. It’s also not about being unkind or acting defiant.
Instead, mentally strong kids are resilient and they have the courage and confidence to reach their full potential. Helping kids develop mental strength requires a three-pronged approach:
- Teaching them to replace negative thoughts with more realistic thoughts
- Helping them learn to control their emotions so their emotions don’t control them
- Showing them how to take positive action
TEACH SPECIFIC SKILLS. Discipline should be about teaching your kids to do better next time, not making them suffer for their mistakes.
LET YOUR CHILD MAKE MISTAKES. Teach your child that mistakes are part of the learning process so he doesn’t feel ashamed or embarrassed for getting something wrong.
ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO FACE FEARS HEAD-ON. If your child avoids anything scary, she’ll never gain the confidence she needs to handle feeling uncomfortable. Cheer her on, praise her efforts, and reward her for being brave and she’ll learn that she’s a capable kid who can handle stepping outside her comfort zone.
