Shout Outs!
A big shout out to Ms. Brooks, Ms. Heizer, Ms. Boggs, Ms. Fowler and Ms. Shultz for providing training on small group reading to our teacher teams last week. Thanks for taking time to prepare for your presentations and for the thoughtful conversations you led with your colleagues.
And a special shout out to the young artists pictured below who won our annual yearbook competition. Their art will be featured on the front and back cover respectively. Way to go ladies!!
Kindergarten
You know you have worked hard during reading groups when you earn double stickers on a Friday!
3rd Grade
Our 3rd graders have been hard at work learning about multiplication. Two of our Gladiators are demonstrating how to model their multiplication facts with arrays.
PTA Fundraiser Pickup - Monday, 11/11
The items from PTA's fundraiser are being delivered on Monday, November 11. PTA will be here to distribute orders from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Please make plans to pick up your child's items that day.
Veterans Day - Monday, November 11 - Wear Red, White & Blue
Monday, November 11 is Veterans Day. Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military – in wartime or peacetime. On behalf of our Gladiator students and staff, we would like to thank all veterans, but especially those members of our community who have served in the military. Thanks for your service!
The Veteran Administration's theme for Veterans Day 2024 is “A Legacy of Loyalty and Service”, and this year we would like to honor the loyalty and service of our veterans by wearing red, white and blue.
World Kindness Day - Wednesday, November 13
World Kindness Day is celebrated on Wednesday, November 13. We encourage all students and staff to wear "kindness" t-shirts if they have them, or cardigans if you are a fan of Mr. Rogers. More importantly we will call on everyone to take time out on Wednesday and share an act of kindness with someone in your life.
World Diabetes Day - Thursday, November 14 - Wear Blue
World Diabetes Day (WDD) is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign reaching a global audience of over 1 billion people in over 160 countries. It is marked every year on 14 November, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1922. We have a number of students and staff members here at Riverheads Elementary living with diabetes and we want to encourage our students and staff to show their support by wearing blue.
Monday, November 18 - 1st Grade Musical Program
Our 1st Graders will be performing, Cookies! The Musical on Monday, November 18 at 6:00 pm.
Meet the cookies: Chocolate Chip, M&M, Peanut Butter, Gingerbread, and of course, the classic Sugar Cookies. They've just learned that they're headed to the cookie exchange — and they’re not thrilled about it. In fact, they're feeling nervous and a bit worried about leaving their cozy batches behind. But after taking some time to think it over, the cookies begin to realize that meeting new friends might not be so bad after all! A group of playful puppies even stops by, drawn in by their love for cookies!
Please join us for this musical celebrating friendship and togetherness - and meet the sweetest cookies in town!
American Education Week - November 18 - 22
American Education Week is November 18 - 22 and we need your help as we celebrate. We are asking your family to share a little love with our teachers and staff by completing our Staff Recognition Form (https://forms.gle/WMCF1x4mumudyqAX9). These recognitions will be printed onto thank you cards and shared with staff members. If you can make time to share your positive message this week, we will kickoff American Education Week on November 18 by sharing your messages.
Thanks for helping us show a little love to our staff!
Good News Gladiators
Each morning our Gladiators are asked to live up to our Red Pride Pledge by being safe, respectful, responsible, caring learners. Students who live up to our Riverheads Expectations for Success have a chance to be nominated by their teacher or another staff member for the honor of being a Good News Gladiator. Students who earn this honor are given a shout out over the announcements and are allowed to choose a book from our book vending machine.
Please join me in celebrating these Gladiators for showing their Red Pride!
We have been busy recognizing students all year, so be on the lookout for more Good News Gladiators each week.
