Principal's Message
Dear Pioneer Middle School Families,
I hope this message finds you well!
I want to remind everyone that next Friday, January 24th, will be a half-day for all students as we wrap up the first semester. Dismissal will be at 11:40 am.
As we approach this milestone, I want to thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your students' learning and growth. It’s been a wonderful semester filled with achievements, and we’re excited to see what the rest of the school year will bring!
Please feel free to reach out to the school office if you have any questions or need additional information.
Thank you for all you do to make our school community so special!
Regards,
JoAnne Fernandes
Principal, Pioneer Middle School
What's happening in Science?
6th Grade:
6th grade classes have finished their Metabolism unit, where they learned about how the body physically and chemically breaks down nutrients to use to power the body’s functions. The next topic will be Thermal Energy.
We are happy to announce Mrs. Guillen is doing well with her brand new baby girl, who was born over winter break.
Mrs.Basinger will be taking over room C105 for the remainder of the school year.
7th Grade:
7th grade classes have finished their Plate Tectonics unit. They learned about Plate Motion, Earthquakes and Fossils! The foldable was an example of how students showed their understanding of the different Earth Science concepts.
The 7th grade students will be moving into Chemistry, learning about atomic structure, valence electrons, and the periodic table of elements.
8th Grade:
8th grade students are finishing their Earth, Moon Sun unit, learning how the phases of the moon appear over a month, and why lunar and solar eclipses are rare. Did you know the planets are aligned this week? With telescopes, you can see Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus in the South West horizon.
Natural Selection is the next unit Mrs. Mateus’ class is studying. The unit of learning focuses on Adaptive Traits, mutations, and environmental factors that cause populations to change over time.
