10/15 BHS Tiger News
Week of October 15th, 2023
Belleville High School
Greetings Belleville Families, this is Week #8 and we had a GREAT time last week at Parent Teacher Conferences! Thanks to our dedicated parents, guardians, and family members, we DOUBLED attendance from last year! We are thrilled with how our families are turning out for activities and volunteer opportunities, as we know that the BEST schools have the BEST Parent Participation! Please remember that ongoing communication with your student's teachers is the best way to keep a positive partnership going. Reviewing MiStar/ParentConnect on a weekly basis is always the first step to knowing how and what your scholar is doing (please check attendance as well).
TIGER PARENT MEETING!
This month's Tiger Parent Meeting for ALL Grades is THIS WEDNESDAY at 6:30pm. These meetings provide a brief overview of what's been going on in the building, upcoming plans and activities, and volunteer schedules and sign-ups. Don't miss this opportunity to make BHS one of the BEST SCHOOLS in the region - through your participation!
CONGRATULATIONS to our National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists! 🥇
Congratulations to BHS's own Parker Mears and Thomas Okubo for achieving Semifinalist status on the PSAT/NMSQT test, taken by juniors across the nation each Fall. In October of 2022, approximately 1,300,000 U.S. high school students took the PSAT/NMSQT, and in April 2023 50,000 of them were ranked as high scorers. From there, only 16,000 Semifinalists were ranked in September as the highest-scoring participants for each state - Parker and Thomas were in that number!
In February 2024, we find out which participants reach "finalist" status, and after that, which will be actual Merit Scholarship winners. Good luck to Parker and Thomas, and good luck to ALL our Juniors, who will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT for 2023 this Wednesday. In Purpose, Excellence, and ACHIEVEMENT! - GO TIGERS!!

Welcome back, everyone! We wanted to inform you that the Homework Lab and Testing Center at BHS will be open beginning this week to provide additional support to our students. We encourage you to share this information with your respective classes and colleagues. The Homework Lab will be available on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:15 to 3:15. During this time, students can receive assistance with their homework assignments or seek guidance on any academic challenges they may be facing. To ensure a smooth and efficient process, it is required that students sign up using bookmarks before attending the lab. We recommend that they sign up before 1:00 pm to secure their spot.

GREAT News!
Michigan State launches tuition-free promise for families making up to $65K
Michigan State University is launching a free-tuition program for some high graduates starting with the class of 2024.
The Spartan Tuition Advantage, announced Monday, will cover the cost of full tuition for Michigan high school graduates who have a family income of $65,000 or less and qualify for Federal Pell Grants, awarded to students from lower-income backgrounds. The student is guaranteed free tuition using a combination of federal, state and MSU aid.
Students do not need to fill out a separate scholarship application for the MSU program, but must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify. It costs about $16,000 in tuition and fees for an in-state undergraduate student to take two semesters of classes during the 2023-2024 school year.
