Principal's Post
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The YouthTruth surveys are open and will remain accessible until midnight on March 22. At this time only 8% of LOHS Families have completed the survey, let's get that number closer to 100%! Each survey link is specific to your child's school, so please ensure you complete a survey for each school your student(s) attends. Meanwhile, students will complete their surveys during school hours, and staff will receive a separate survey via email.

Attendance Focus - SENIORS
It has become clear that 18 year olds checking themselves out of school has become a problem. While it is true that we can't stop an 18 year old from leaving, we will no longer be excusing students who do not pre-arrange their absences. Our handbook states that appointments such as doctors appointments and college visits need to be pre-arranged. What this means is that students who check themselves out without advanced approval, or documentation of an emergency, doctor's note, etc, will be marked as unexcused, they may be assigned a crew time and will not be able to make up missed work or exams in those classes. 18 year old students who arrive late will receive unexcused tardies or absences depending on how late they arrive.
Additionally, 18 year old students who develop a pattern of leaving the building on a regular basis may have their parking permit revoked. If you have any questions, please consult The Pilot or feel free to reach out to Aaron Hollingshead, hollinga@loswego.k12.or.us

Library News Worth Checking Out
Textbook and Novel Check Out
Recently, some students have been requesting a second copy of a class-assigned textbook or novel when their original copy is at home. We are unable to check out second copies to students who already have one. We want to ensure fair access of resources for all students and manage our limited inventory effectively.
Some textbooks are available online. Please ask your instructor for help in accessing the online versions if needed.
Chromebook Charger Replacement
We also want to remind everyone that if you have lost your Chromebook charger, a replacement fee is required before a new charger can be issued.
The replacement fee of $40 is necessary to cover the cost of the new charger.
Please pay the LOHS bookkeeper if you have lost your charger and are in need of a new one.

Tardiness & Appointments
As we progress through the school year, I wanted to share a gentle reminder about the importance of allowing sufficient time before deciding to keep your child home from school. We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, and there are times when a student may not feel their best. However, giving careful consideration to the decision of calling your child out of school allows them the opportunity to make the most of their education.
Here are a few things to consider:
- Morning Routine: Encourage your child to establish a morning routine that allows for enough time to assess their well-being and communicate any concerns before the school day begins.
- Traffic: We know traffic gets very heavy during drop off and pick up time, sometimes causing kids to be late. Leaving a few extra minutes early can avoid some of the stress and anxiety that comes with being late. The first bell is 8:20am and the 2nd 8:25am, which is when students are expected to be in their classrooms.
- Communication: If your child expresses feeling unwell, encourage open communication. Sometimes, a brief rest or minor adjustment to their routine can make a significant difference.
- Attendance Impact: Regular, on time, attendance is vital for academic success. Missing class time can affect your child's understanding of the material and their overall educational experience.
- Appointments: Please remember to allow at least 2 hours prior to the requested adjusted release time. Requests should be made through the following means: Calling the Attendance Line 503-534-2329; emailing lohattendance@loswego.k12.or.us or ParentSquare
By working together to prioritize attendance, we can create a positive and supportive environment for your child's learning journey. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out, and we'll be happy to assist.
Oregon DMV Knowledge Test Now Online!
The following information from Oregon Department of Transportation is intended for all Oregon high schools.
Spring break is a great time for students preparing to get their driver permit to take their Oregon DMV knowledge test online. Here's how students take advantage of this opportunity.
- Students need a laptop or a computer with a webcam, keyboard, mouse, and reliable internet.
- Students who are under 18 will need someone 21 or older to supervise them taking the test.
- After students pass the knowledge test online, they will need to go to their local DMV office with their identity documents to have their card issued; they do not need to schedule an appointment.
Why Take the Test Online?
Testing online allows customers the chance to know that they have passed their exam before coming into the DMV office and the option to test in a familiar and comfortable environment without the pressure of being in an office. This can save people multiple trips into the office if they do not pass the first time.
This is the direct link to the online knowledge test: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/DMV/Pages/Online_Services/Online_Knowledge_Testing.aspx

WAYS TO REPORT INCIDENTS RELATED TO BIAS, RACISM OR HARASSMENT IN LOSD
Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources. SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools. Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense. https://www.safeoregon.com/
In addition, below are reporting methods for parents-guardians or students to use to report issues related to racist, bias, or harassment incidents.
