NEWSLETTER - October 2024

Thank you to all that participated or contributed to Friday's College & Career Day event! I'm proud to say that we hosted almost 80 organizations at Smithville High School. Students were able to hear career presentations and learn about post-secondary education and training opportunities. We are so grateful for our partnerships and support in providing our students with the tools they need to be successful post high school.

We'll be scheduling interviews for more than 100 students this year. Would you like to help? I'll need several industry partners to sit for interviews daily during class times - Monday, November 4 through Thursday, November 7.

💖 Exciting news! Smithville Middle School students are gearing up for their Miniature Parade of Hearts project, and we need YOU! Local businesses can partner with us to assist students in creating these beautiful mini-3-D hearts. These heartwarming creations will be showcased in your businesses from late November through mid-January. ✨ Thank you to Ms. Christus for your vision in creating this opportunity!

Did you know that we have an internship program at Smithville High School? Along with our Cadet Teachers and Child Development Interns, I have been working to place students with industry professionals in their area of interest.

We are currently looking for placements for second semester. Students will attend a short orientation during the first two weeks of the semester, after which they will be ready to begin working with their intern host. Interns typically spend about 2.5 hours at their internship 2-3 days per week.

Students have expressed interest in the following areas:

Medical/Nursing

Genetic Research

Law Enforcement

Business Management and Marketing

Environmental Science

Audio Engineering

Biomedical Engineering

Dental Hygienist
