Evening Street Weekly Update
October 25, 2024

Enjoy the lovely fall drawing of scarecrows in a pumpkin patch made by Mrs. Gentner and Mr. Carter's classes in art class. Mrs. Wetz directed the children to use 3 primary colors to mix secondary colors when making their scarecrows. The result, as you can see, is a vibrant pumpkin patch.
On November 11th we will honor veterans of the Evening Street community with a 9:15 a.m. program. The Third Grade class will perform patriotic songs. Army veterans and Evening Street parents, Lisa and Shawn Corcoran, will be our guest speakers. Due to limited spacing, only third grade students, their families, and veterans are able to attend. If you would like for a sibling of a third grader who is an Evening Street student to attend, please mark that on the Veteran's Day RSVP. If you have digital pictures of your veteran, please send them to Mrs. Palmer at jpalmer@wscloud.org as she will be making a display to thank the veterans.
There is still time to register for the November 12th Tech Healthy Kids and Teen parent workshop. Lynsey Pearson, a parent who has children in Colonial Hills, Kilbourne Middle School, and Thomas Worthington High School will be at Evening Street to give parents tips on navigating social media in these digital times.
This will be an hour workshop with 30 minutes allotted for questions at the end. The presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. Please RSVP as Lynsey will send the power point after the presentation to those participants who sign up. Feel free to attend the entire time or just for part of the presentation. This is a PTA sponsored event
The PTA will be meeting this coming Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. One topic to be discussed will be replacement of the spinning toy pictured. Unfortunately, it is broken beyond repair. It worked on a Friday and was broken on a Monday, so I suspect weekend visitors with much force broke it. Come to the meeting to discuss if we can fund a replacement item and look at options for replacements.
Our Fall Harvest Parade will be Thursday, October 31st at 1:30 p.m. We hope to hold the parade outdoors weather permitting. Children may dress up, no scary costumes or weapons please. Teachers will notify you of the food served and activities planned ahead of the event. Parents feel free to dress up as well and join in the fun! If you come for the parade, we will begin the parade on the back playground, go around the soccer court and around to the front steps.
Worthington Schools are partnering together to help the Worthington Resource Pantry to fill their shelves. If every child brings in one donation item on the day of the Fall Harvest parade we would be able to donate nearly 500 food items. If you are able please send in a food item on Thursday, October 31st. We will continue the collection until November 13th.
The greatest needs for the pantry are:
Canned soup
Canned pasta
Cereal
Rice-a-Roni
As a reminder, we do not have school on election day, Tuesday, November 5th. The staff and I will be engaging in professional development. The topic will be how to implement Executive Function strategies in the classroom. Our awesome coach, Kristen Milbourne, will lead the learning.
I hope you have a great weekend, enjoy the sunshine!
Mary Rykowski
Your child's name is important! Please take a minute to complete the Google Form above with the name your child would like to see under their picture. For example, if your child's name is Joseph, do they prefer Joe, Joey or Joseph. Please generate a response for each of your children at Evening Street. This form should be completed by November 15th.
Thanks,
Amber Durant & Sarah Dooley
2024 PTA Reflections Contest Information
The PTA will be sponsoring the Reflections Program again this year. This year’s Theme is “Accepting Imperfection”
Reflections is a national arts program hosted by the National PTA for students K-12. There are six categories that students can participate in - dance, music, film production, photography, literature, and visual arts. Students can submit one piece for each category if they so choose.

Panorama Survey
We are partnering with Panorama Education, a third-party vendor, to support us in administering these surveys. The survey content will ask students in grades 3-12 to self-reflect on Sense of Belonging, Self Management, Emotion Regulation, Social Awareness, and Supportive Relationships.
During the 2023-2024 school year our District partnered with Battelle for Kids and a community design team consisting of students, Evening Street families, community members and support staff.
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. As you may already be aware, building our well-being and social-emotional learning skills is an important goal for our school this year and every year. Over the next few weeks, students will participate in several exercises to better understand these concepts and to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.
As we have done for the last four years, we will be asking for your child to reflect on his/her own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey. The survey shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to complete and will be administered during a two-week window from 11/4-11/15.
Staff, teachers, and administrators created a Worthington Schools Portrait of a Learner. The Design Team worked to answer the following questions during that process, which led to our District Portrait of a Learner:
- What are the hopes, dreams, and aspirations that our community has for its students?
- What are the skills and mindsets our children need for success in this rapidly changing, and complex world?
- What are the implications for the design of the learning experiences and equitable access to those experiences we provide in our school system?
Aligning our survey topics with our Portrait of a Learner Competencies and elementary and middle school Learner Profiles will help to support our work in building these competencies.
Student voice matters to us, and their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences in how we can improve and adapt our instruction to meet their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether.
If you have any questions about the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) survey, please don’t hesitate to email me at mrykowski@wscloud.org
Respectfully,
Mary Rykowski
