EHS Principal's Update:Week 4

Dear Lions,

We are excited to welcome students and families to Back to School Night which is tomorrow night, September 4th, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM on the main campus. We are excited to showcase clubs, and performing groups as well as having an opportunity for you to meet your child's teachers. Tomorrow will also be a minimum day to allow teachers and staff to prepare for this event. Please plan on school being released at 1:37 PM.

Before and after school tutoring is underway. After School tutoring is available for all student Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 3:40pm - 4:30pm. Before school tutoring is available Monday-Friday from 7:40 am - 8:40 am.

This is a friendly reminder that all students need an official school hall pass when outside in the hallways during classtime. This includes when using the restroom, going to the library, visiting the school nurse, and visiting the counselors office.

This is a friendly reminder of our school's dress to provide a positive learning environment for all students. All students will be expected to follow the student dress code which includes but is not limited to the following:

• No tube tops or tops without straps
• No clothing that reveals undergarments - such as excessively ripped pants or shirts with holes in them
• No clothing that, when worn, shows undergarments or areas of the body considered private - such as "short shorts" or "sagged" pants.
• No tank tops with oversized arm openings or undershirt tank tops (by themselves)
• No clothing, backpacks or accessories that have images or content that is sexually suggestive, depict drugs, alcohol, tobacco use, or other illegal activities.

If your student should come to school out of dress code, we will first check if the student brought a different garment to wear. If they did not, we will call home and require that the student be brought a change of clothes or be picked up to go home and change.

Estamos emocionados de darles la bienvenida a los estudiantes y familias a la Noche de Regreso a Clases que será mañana por la noche, 4 de septiembre, de 5:30 p.m. a 7:00 p.m. en el campus principal. Estamos entusiasmados de presentar clubes y grupos de actuación, además de tener la oportunidad de que usted conozca a los maestros de su hijo.

Se están llevando a cabo tutorías antes y después de la escuela. La tutoría después de clases está disponible para todos los estudiantes los lunes, miércoles, jueves y viernes de 3:40 p. m. a 4:30 p. m. La tutoría antes de clases está disponible de lunes a viernes de 7:40 am a 8:40 am.

Si su estudiante debe venir a la escuela sin cumplir con el código de vestimenta, primero verificaremos si el estudiante trajo una prenda diferente para usar. Si no lo hicieron, llamaremos a casa y exigiremos que le traigan al estudiante un cambio de ropa o que lo recojan para ir a casa y cambiarse.

Does your student need additional social emotional support at EHS? EHS offers many on campus student support groups to support our Lions through the many issues today's teens may be dealing with. If you would like to refer your student for a student support group, please scan the QR code and complete the google form.

Some examples of Student Support Groups offered at EHS are:

Mood Group, Anxiety, Life Skills, Anger Management, Grief/Loss, Conflict Resolution, and Substance Abuse.

You can also use the form to suggest a group your student may benefit from.

Scholarships and grants are helpful ways to fund your child’s college education. They provide you with free money that can go towards tuition or other educational expenses.This year we have partnered with Going Merry to make completing the FAFSA and finding scholarships easier than ever! Please have your student go to the School Counseling Office for assistance.

EHS parents/guardians have three options for viewing their student's grades, assignments, and attendance.

1. AV High School District App (Lion Link) - This app gives you new, information, as well as your student's progress. It is available on both the Apple App Store and Google App Store. When in the app store, search for AVUHSD and download the app.
2. PowerSchool App - This app ties right into your PowerSchool Parent Portal. You will get live updates on grades, assignments, and attendance. This app is also found on the Apple App Store and Google App Store. Search for PowerSchool and use district code: NWMZ.

There are some helpful links below to get your PowerSchool Parent Portal account set up for the school year.

If you need to clear an absence, please email the EHS Attendance office at ehs-attendance@avhsd.org. Make sure to include your student's name, student ID number, date of absence, reason for the absence, your name, and relationship to the student. You may also call the attendance office at 661-946-3800 Extensions 1050 (A-L) and 1045 (M-Z).
