Tour Options
Tours are ticketed through EventBrite at time of Conference Registration. Please select only one, as all tours are offered at the same time!
The bus will load in front of the DoubleTree following the Keynote speaker and will depart at 10:40 AM. The bus ride will be about 5-10 minutes, with all three tour locations just seven city blocks to the south, in the city's NewBohemia District. The bus will stop at NewBo City Market, then City View Community High School, and finally at METRO High School. It will depart METRO at 11:45 AM, stopping at each location before returning to the DoubleTree at approximately 11:55 AM.
NewBo City Market
Participants will be bussed from the conference venue to NewBo City Market, a non-profit entrepreneurial incubator in the NewBo District of Cedar Rapids. Attendees will meet with Sarah Blais, the Senior Director of Market Operations, who will share how the Market has worked to connect alternative high school students with entrepreneurship and the community. The Market provides METRO students with opportunities in the forms of programming, mentorship, workforce placement with Market entrepreneurs, small business training, and start-up funding to allow students to explore and launch their own small business projects.
City View Community High School
Participants will be bussed from the conference venue to City View Community High School, housed inside the Cedar Rapids Economic Alliance Building in downtown Cedar Rapids. Attendees will be greeted by City View Principal Dan Devore and given a walking tour, a chance to meet with students, and time for Q&A.
METRO High School
Participants will be bussed from the conference venue to METRO High School. Attendees will be greeted by METRO Principal Mark Groteluschen and given a walking tour of the building. Opportunity for Q&A will occur along the way. Stops will include the STEAM Academy, a project-based interdisciplinary program within METRO High School. Attendees will have a chance to interact with a group of students as they share about their projects and the Academy’s lab space. School will not be in session while staff attend the conference.
