February 2025 FAMILY NEWSLETTER

Borman Blast - Family Newsletter for February 2025
WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING?
Hello Families! I hope you all had a nice beginning to 2025, and welcome to all of our new families to Borman. If you're leaving soon for a PCS, we wish you the best of luck and prosperity. We are thankful you choose Borman as your partner in education.
K-5 teachers have been getting some much needed planning time for their teams the last few weeks. K-2 planned for third quarter and how to best prepare students for the next grade level. 3-5 is focused on getting kids ready for the next grade level and the Arizona Academic Standards Assessment or AASA. The 6-8 middle school is also always working on giving kids opportunities to learn and grow beyond their Core instruction (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies). Our kids in 3-8 all did an excellent job of showing growth and proficiency last year, and we are planning for a repeat performance. Please help us with motivating students to continue to do their best each day.
You will also see an increase in school events for third and fourth quarter. We're doing recognitions, assemblies, fundraisers, school and family events, and just fun things for kids. Making school fun and including parents in this is a priority!
If you're new to Tucson, most school districts honor the great Tucson tradition of Rodeo Week - The Annual Fiesta De Los Vaqueros (February 15th - 23rd). We will have school on Presidents' Day, but take Thursday and Friday off for the parade and rodeo events. The Rodeo parade is on February 20th and starts at 0900. It is the largest non-mechanised parade in the world, so if you like cowboy culture, horses, and local culture, it is a wonderful event to take your family to.
Repeat note: We have a new attendance kiosk for middle school students. They can use their IDs to scan in their tardy arrival. Parents walking their students in can still use the paper sign-in as well.
Please remind your student to be: Responsible, Respectful, Safe, and Kind!
Thank you,
Mr. Huss - Principal

Student Drop-off/School Start and End Times/Traffic
Please remember school office hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. School starts at 8:20. Please do not drop your students off before 7:45 as we have no campus monitors on site until that time. Students that are dropped off before this are unsupervised and we cannot be responsible for something that might happen. You can report absences via ParentLink - this is a much more efficient process for us to record absences and more convenient for you to work around office hours. Please see the link below.
On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, school ends at 2:30 for K-5 and 3:15 for 6-8. On Wednesday, school ends one hour earlier for teacher PD and planning. Please pick your students up promptly as our monitors leave soon after school ends each day.
Please be patient when dropping off or picking up your student/s in the round-about. Pull forward as far as you can and have your child exit or enter the vehicle as quickly as possible. If you are stuck in traffic along Lightning Drive, please do not drive down the opposite lane to go around. The jam usually moves along in a few minutes. Also, please do not park in the staff parking lot unless you have business in the front office. There is plenty of parking in the dirt outside of the staff lot and across the street.

Safe Technology Use
We teach safe technology practices with our middle school students in technology class(since students take their school laptops home and typically have more access to personal technology), we also want to offer some resources for families with students of any age. For now, I will just share a link to Common Sense Media parent resources. In the future I may share more specific ideas.
Positions Needed(Help Wanted):
Looking for a part time job? We have a couple of positions open:
- Regular Education TA (upcoming)
- Boy's Track Coach for 4th quarter.
From the Health Office
The Health Office would like to thank PTO for the generous donation of feminine hygiene products for our students.
PTO Announcements
PTO needs your help! Borman PTO works really hard to raise money for student centered and schoolwide events. One of our biggest events of the year is the End of Year Field Day and celebration, which planning and preparation starts during the third quarter. We also turn to them to help fund classroom events, and school and admin incentives and awards given to students. They can always use more volunteers and help including being a chair on the board of directors. Please see the section below on contacting them.
PTO governing board:
Brittney Thomas - President
Stephanie Lugo - VP
Devyn Watkins - Treasurer
Sarah Morales - Secretary
Celia Giles - Parent Representative
PTO is still looking for more board members and volunteers. Please email our PTO for questions or interest!
Tax Credit Donations
We can always use tax credit donations if you're an Arizona resident! Arizona Law allows Public School Tax Credits donations made during 2024, or donations made from January 1, 2025, through April 15, 2025, to be claimed on the 2024 Arizona Income Tax return. If you have additional questions with regards to claiming of tax credits, please consult with your tax professional or go to the Arizona Department of Revenue https://azdor.gov/tax-credits
