π This week students will be reading the biography by Julius Lester, Black Cowboy, Wild Horses. This text tells the story of Bob Lemmons, a cowboy in the West who is very skilled at taming horses. Bob was once an enslaved person who was deprived of a formal education. But he has great practical knowledge and special skill at bringing valuable wild horses in to be tamed. Bob is patient and clever. In the vast wilderness, he braves a storm, rattlesnakes, and the dangerous, wild horses. Bob and his horse, Warrior, ride with the mustangs day and night and are challenged by the herdβs stallion as Bob and Warrior try to round up the herd and lead them into a corral.
π In this lesson students will:
Cite textual evidence to support analysis

Science
πͺ Last week in Science class, we were looking for evidence of life in the solar system. We analyzed landforms on Earth, planets, and moons in the solar system for evidence of liquid water. We learned that without liquid water there is no life.
π This week, we are looking at Earth's water and Earth's other systems. The Earth has been here a long time. We will be looking for evidence of Earth's systems changing over time. We will be reading about factors that may influence the changes in Earth's systems and the results of those changes.
π― Also, just like last week, instead of our weekly quiz on Friday, it will be on Monday. Just as a reminder, students can NOT retake a quiz, only tests. With that being said, in about three weeks, we will be having our Unit Test on the solar system. Study guides will start coming home after Thanksgiving Break. Have an awesome week!
Social Studies
ποΈ Our topics for the week include:
- The Characteristics of Earth's Ecosystems
- Climate and Ecosystem Interactions
- Natural Disasters and Human Impact
π― Students will take the Earth's Processes and Patterns Unit Test on Tuesday, November 26th. Study guides will be sent home this week and a digital copy will be available on Google Classroom.
π» Please note, our Google Classroom has many resources, including videos and online games students can access anytime to help reinforce the concepts we are studying in class. I will share a few favorites below.
Spanish
Art
π©πΎβπ¨ Exploratory Art 2 is starting off their quarter by creating art journals and portfolios customized with their own personal designs.
ποΈ We also talked about the importance of maintaining the Art Studio and the supplies in it. Your student should have brought home a contract with guidelines to studio care that they must sign as well as a guardian and return.
π Please be sure they get these back asap and you talk to your student about the importance of safety and care in the Art Room as well as all their classes! Thank you!

π Giving Tree
Weβre excited to start a new tradition this holiday season! Our Giving Tree starts next week! This special program allows teachers to request items needed for their classrooms, and parents can choose to gift these items to support our students and teachers directly. The tree will be set up in the school lobby with tags listing requested items. If youβd like to participate, simply select a tag, purchase the item, and return it to the office by the date indicated. Thank you for helping us enhance our classrooms and support our dedicated teachers!
