Pevely Elementary Weekly Update
Hello Pevely Families!
First, I want to send a huge thank you to the Lil' Cat Club PTO parent and staff volunteers for planning, hosting, and supervising such an amazing event last Friday! Our Back to School Bash was even bigger than last year with fun games, bounce houses, bubbles and more. Every part of the event was planned by parent and staff volunteers and I cannot thank them enough! Thank you to everyone who joined us that evening as well!
As a reminder, we do not have school on Friday, September 20 as we have a Staff Professional Development day.
Just in case you missed Yearbook Photo Day today, we have photo retakes on October 25th.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend, we'll see you Monday!
#GoBlackcats
Sincerely,
Ms. Katie Dunlap
Pevely Elementary Principal

World Sight Day! Saturday, September 28th
The Hillsboro Lions Club is hosting our 2nd annual World Sight Day on Saturday, September 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hillsboro Civic Center. The focus of this event is to provide free vision care, promote the accomplishments and resources of individuals with visual impairment, and provide fun and learning for the whole family. Our event will include the following:
- Lions Club Eye Mission - Free eye screenings and prescription glasses will be provided to anyone. Lions Clubs all over Missouri collect used eyeglasses that are cleaned and examined to determine their prescription strength. Each participant in the eye mission will have their eyes screened to determine what prescription they need, and they will be given a free pair from among the selection available. No financial status or documentation is required. If no glasses meet their need, the Lions Club will cover the cost for them to receive an eye exam and glasses at a local vendor.
- Bike Rodeo by The Jefferson County Health Department - Children are invited to bring their own bike and helmet to ride this bike rodeo obstacle course. We will also have a few used bikes available to ride. This bike rodeo will teach children the importance of learning to ride their bike safely and remain in control of their bike at all times. Free helmets will be given while supplies last. Participants can register to win one of two free bikes!
The Health Department will also be bringing their smoothie bike that allows participants to get in some physical activity and several food groups while building and blending their customized smoothie
- Other Vendors that are confirmed-
- Jefferson County Sheriff Dept. ID kits for Kids
- Hillsboro Fire Trucks
- House Springs Lions Cub Club
- JFCAC and EZMO transportation

Buddy Bench Competition
The PE Department is holding a classroom competition during the first semester of the school year! We are asking that students bring in clean plastic lids from containers such as yogurt, cottage cheese, butter, toothpaste, milk jugs, soda bottles, etc. We cannot take lids from cleaning supplies, bleach, etc.
Why are we doing this? 🙂
A former Pevely Elementary student, Morgan Anderson, passed away from a severe asthma attack a few years ago her family has established a foundation called the "Morgan S3 Foundation". Morgan was a huge advocate of volunteering and showing kindness. The foundations will take the collected lids and send them to a company that will make a "Buddy Bench" from them. We currently have one on our playground now and would love to have an additional bench in honor of Morgan! This project will not cost us anything and we will be recycling as well as creating another opportunity for kids to connect at recess. Plus, Morgan's memory will live on!
Thank you so much for your help!
