Participants will: 1) Know how to create assignments in Schoology for use as homework, projects, test prep, bell-ringers, exit tickets etc. 2) Know how to link files from their school Google Drive directly into Schoology. 3) Understand how students will be able to use Schoology in conjunction with their student school Google Drives. 4) Know how to send pre-existing assignments in Microsoft Word, PDF format etc. to their school Google Drive to then be linked to Schoology without having to start.

In this 2-hour workshop, participants will learn the effects of trauma on the brain, recognize these effects in their classroom, and learn strategies for addressing student needs in the classroom. This is an introductory overview of trauma and its effects. Workshop Objectives:
• To gain a better understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences
• Understand the impact of trauma on the brain and the effect on learning
• Learn about trauma-informed approaches in schools
• Introduction to the NYS Social Emotional Learning Standards

In this 3-hour workshop, participants will be able to view the 1hr. documentary Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope (2016) that delves into the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the birth of a new movement to treat and prevent Toxic Stress. Participants will then engage in playing the Brain Architecture Game in teams. The Brain Architecture Game is a tabletop game experience that builds an understanding of the powerful role of experiences on early brain development - what promotes it, what derails it, and the consequences for society.

Workshop Objectives:
• To learn the biological impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences
• To make the connection between early life experiences and later development for individuals
• Learn about different forms of stress

November 9, 2020

For this 2-hour workshop, participants should come with a base level understanding of ACEs and the effects of trauma. We will dive deeper into classroom strategies to help promote resiliency in the classroom. Topics to be addressed include protective factors, relationship building activities, practices that teach the whole child and align the NYS social-emotional learning benchmarks to the current curriculum. Participants will work in groups to reflect on their current classroom practices, the needs of students in their classroom, and the action plan on how to implement supports for students in need. Workshop objectives:
• To develop teaching strategies to promote resilience in the classroom
• Begin to develop an action plan for implementation of trauma-informed approaches

In this 2.5 hour workshop, participants will watch the 2016 Paper Tigers film which follows a year in the life of an alternative high school in Walla Walla, Washington that has radically changed its approach to disciplining its students, becoming a promising model for how to break the cycles of poverty, violence, and disease that affect families. After watching this 102 min film, participants will engage in a discussion regarding what it means to be trauma-informed school and ways to integrate these strategies into classrooms and at a systems level in their school. In this 3 hour workshop, participants will watch the 2-hour film, Who Cares About Kelsey? which documents the lives of students with emotional/behavioral challenges and shows innovative educational approaches that help these individual students to succeed, while improving the overall school culture and climate. Students in this film are in high school. After the group will discuss Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and make connections for integrating these proactive approaches into their own classroom settings. Workshop Objectives:
• Recognize the impact of ACEs on student behavior
• Review effective, proactive approaches and elements related to PBIS
• Brainstorm and action plan effective techniques for schoolwide implementation

This workshop is part of the Strengthening Families framework developed by the Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP) over the last decade to prevent child abuse and neglect. This approach helps child welfare systems, early education, and other programs that work with parents to build the following protective factors:
• Parental resilience
• Social connections
• Concrete support in times of n
• Knowledge of parenting and child development
• Social and emotional competence of children This 2 -hour National Alliance of Children's Trust and Prevention Funds Protective Factors Framework Introduction workshop will allow you to learn about the Protective Factors and what we can do to help build them in our own lives and as partners, with the children and families, we work with every day. This workshop is best suited for those who have an interest in supporting and engaging families and students beyond the classroom. Workshop Objectives:
• Explore all five protective factors
• Learn about seven strategies that help families to build those protective factors
• Reflect upon what it means to work with families in a strength-based way

Social and emotional well-being sets the foundation for the development and learning of young children. The New York State Pyramid Model Partnership promotes the statewide use of the Pyramid Model, an evidence-based framework proven to be an effective approach to building social and emotional competence in early education programs and addressing challenging behaviors in the classroom. In this 2-hour workshop, an overview of the Pyramid Model will be shared, along with a preview of the statewide implementation of this work. This workshop is best suited for those working in early childhood settings (PreK-1st grade). Workshop Objectives:
• Learn about the NYS Pyramid Model initiative
• Gain an understanding of the tiered approach to supporting the social-emotional development of young children
• Learn about free, online resources and materials available to support this EC PBIS work
