JH SOFTBALL
Junior high softball has gotten off to a strong start! The girls had their opening game against Seymour April 5th, A girls only, winning 12 - 4. They played Hartville next. They started the game behind, but battled back with some aggressive base running, winning 12 - 6. The B girls also got to play their first game against Hartville and won 7 - 3. Thursday, the 11th, the girls unexpectedly had their first away game, switching locations to Hollister's turf field. The A girls experienced their first loss, losing by 1 run. The B girls remained undefeated. Friday, the 12th, the girls traveled to Cabool and had an awesome day of big hits. The final score was 32 - 14! The B girls again pulled out a win. This week the girls will be on the road Monday, Thursday, and Friday to face Mansfield, Fordland, and Sparta.
The girls are playing hard and learning a lot about the game. They are working well as a unit to encourage each other and staying focused. I've been very pleased with their commitment, determination, and hustle!

HS SOFTBALL
The Lady Bulldogs have a record of 4-11. We have had a tough schedule on the front end and hope to get some wins as we face several teams in our conference the next couple of weeks against Bakersfield and Mansfield. We have conference wins against Fordland and Conway. The Lady Bulldogs got a great win against Norwood and will face them in our first home game, and senior night on April 22. We have a lot of freshmen and sophomores stepping into positions they have never played before. They have shown a lot of growth over the season. Our seniors have done a great job leading the team and I am looking forward to the rest of the season. Some years are growing years and the girls are learning more every game.

PRESCHOOL
KINDERGARTEN
Spring activities are in full bloom for Kindergarten classes. The students enjoyed a fun egg hunt at the Gainesville Nursing Home then another one that afternoon at the football field. We have also been hatching spring chicks and butterflies! They have been super excited! The solar eclipse was phenomenal! Fun was had not only by the kids but for the adults as well!
1ST GRADE
First graders enjoyed watching the Solar Eclipse! We sat on the football field with our friends and special viewing glasses while being amazed by the moon and sun! We enjoyed some space themed snacks at our Solar Eclipse after party! First graders are also learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. We are patiently waiting for our caterpillars to turn into butterflies!! We will end our life cycle unit by enjoying a field trip to the Butterfly Palace in a couple of weeks.
2ND GRADE
Second grade has been learning about the research process. They were able to pick an animal, research it, and will be presenting it to other students in the school.
3RD GRADE
4TH GRADE
Fourth grade has been busy learning many new things! We are working hard and preparing for MAP testing. Students have been enjoying working with fractions. They are becoming fluent in adding and subtracting them.
Mrs. Hubbard’s science class enjoyed testing whether the weight of paper effected the distance a paper airplane traveled. This was a great way for students to talk about the steps of the scientific process and apply the steps as well.
Students also had a wonderful time enjoying the eclipse. They played “total, total, eclipse” which was a play on “duck, duck, goose”.
We started MAP Attack this week and the students are reviewing topics we have been working on all year.
5TH GRADE
Our 5th grade students have been hard at work! We have been learning all about the patterns and movement of the sun, earth and moon. Students tested several models for showing how the apparent brightness and size of the sun and other stars is dependent upon the distance you are from each star.
We also had a special guest, Mr. Kiger aka “Snake Man”, who shared his knowledge about snakes and their special features with our students. He brought several different kinds of snakes for students to view and touch.
The 5th grade students are anxiously awaiting the hatching of our 5 ducks. Students learned how to candle an egg to determine if the egg is fertilized. We were also able to see through the shell that each of the eggs had a beating heart! As the eggs continued to incubate we frequently checked for duck growth within the shell and students have witnessed the ducks moving around inside!
6TH GRADE
Snakes and Solar System
6th grade has enjoyed some wonderful presentations this quarter. Mr. Kiger brought a very captivating audience with him as he taught our 6th graders about our legless friends. Few have the ability to capture 55 students' attention for an hour, and leave them wanting more as our snake man does. This is a program he has offered to our school for years, and had been put aside after Covid. Though a few still were a little nervous, I believe all enjoyed and were thankful that he had brought it back.
We also enjoyed mother nature’s majesty with our total solar eclipse. The experience will easily go down in one of the most exciting ones of the year. We were so thankful to Century Bank for providing us with the eclipse glasses to ensure that all students had the opportunity to see this wonderful feat.
