HFRCS Newsletter November 26, 2024
SY 2024-2025 Vol. 4 Issue 12
From the Principal's Office
Dear Parents and Guardians,
During the month of November, we have been learning about and focusing on the virtue of humility, defined as accepting your limitations and God-given talents. Please see this newsletter for the students who were recognized for exemplifying this virtue. In the month of December, we will be practicing the virtue of patience, defined as waiting or enduring without complaint.
My heart is filled with gratitude for the outpouring of support for this year’s Thanksgiving Food Drive. With your help, we were able to provide full Thanksgiving meals to those in need in Queen of the Universe and St. Frances Cabrini parishes, as well as support families in our school and local community. THANK YOU!
It's hard to believe that this Sunday is the first Sunday in Advent! As we enter into this season of expectation, preparation and patient waiting, let us not forget that it is a season of HOPE! Our Advent committee has been very busy with our school Advent plans. This year as a school-wide Advent service project, we will be collecting books to donate to the Danica Strong Foundation, which will then be donated to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. There is a flyer in today’s newsletter with more information. It is recommended, if possible, for each student to donate a new book that would be appropriate for their grade level. In this way, we hope to have a wide variety of books to offer to CHOP. Perhaps your child would like to donate a new book of one of their favorite books as part of their participation in our book drive. Thank you in advance for your support of our Advent service project.
In addition to returning from Thanksgiving break to the season of Advent, when we return to school on December 3, we are also returning to wearing full winter uniform. Please check the Family Handbook for specific information on our winter uniform, and also in this newsletter. Also, please be reminded that Wednesday, December 4 is picture re-take day. If your child was absent on Picture Day, please send in your picture order envelope with your child on December 4. If you need a picture order envelope, please contact Mrs. St. John in the front office. If your child had their photo taken but you would like a retake, the picture package must be returned in order to get a retake.
This afternoon, we had to postpone our annual Turkey Bowl, a fan-favorite game of faculty versus students in flag football. The field conditions were just not conducive to having our students AND our faculty running the field without the potential for injury. We will look to reschedule the game when we return from Thanksgiving break and the conditions are more favorable. We did have a planned halftime show of our third grade’s balloon creations, a culminating activity of their ELA story, Balloons Over Broadway by Melissa Sweet. This book is an inspirational story of a puppeteer who invented the giant balloons floating in the sky of the first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Our third-grade students paraded their balloon creations through the hallways today instead. Thank you to Mrs. Davis and our third-grade students!
Please be reminded that tomorrow is an early dismissal day. Our PK students and their siblings will be dismissed at 11:00 AM. Parents of PK students, please park in the parish center parking lot so that you can easily dismiss and not be caught in the church parking lot. Students in grades K-8 will be dismissed at 11:30 AM. Parents should park in the church lot as usual. If we find we need more space, we may utilize the parish center parking lot as we did the day we had an afternoon funeral. School staff will be outdoors and will direct you, if necessary. Only Pennsbury will be providing bussing home tomorrow, all others must be car riders. There is no afternoon CARES tomorrow.
On behalf of all of our Holy Family faculty and staff, we want to wish everyone a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving holiday. May the time with family and friends cause you to recall the many ways our Heavenly Father blesses our lives. I am grateful to all of you for your ongoing support and collaboration in the education and faith formation of your children.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Mrs. Haggerty
We are a family of FAITH!
