Hello Darby Families,

I hope your family enjoyed the past week off and your student is ready to get back to school and finish the first semester strong! We only have three weeks left of the first semester as it officially ends on December 17th.

This month our fine arts programs will perform their holiday concerts. The combined Darby Band and Orchestra Winter Concert is scheduled for Tuesday, November 30th at 6:00 PM. This concert will be held here in our Darby auditorium. The Darby Choir will perform Thursday, December 2nd at 6:00 PM also in our auditorium.

A reminder to 8th grade parents that your student has been working on their education plan in Career Connections 8. Students were shown how to access the 2022-2023 Course Catalog on the Fort Smith Schools website and also given a hard copy of the catalog. The 8th grade students will be working with our school counselors December 8th and 9th to select their courses for their 9th grade year at Northside. Northside High School will host a Parent Help Night on November 29th at 6:00 PM in the Northside auditorium. I highly encourage all 8th grade students and parents to attend this evening to ask any questions about course selections and electives.

Winter break will begin December 20th and classes will not resume again until Tuesday, January 4th.

A big test is coming up, and your teen needs to study. But he has a busy schedule. How much time should he plan to study for the test? Have him ask himself: How long has he studied for this type of test before? What were the results? What are his current grades? Could this test affect them? Can he divide the subject into chunks for studying in short sessions? His answers will help him make the best use of his study time.

Please contact individual teachers if you have a question about a course grade. Teacher emails can be found on our school website. Teachers are always available for phone or in-person conferences. Parents can check student grades on a daily basis throughout the school year using Schoology. This is a great resource provided by our district! If you need help accessing your student's grades please call the office to speak with a counselor or principal.

The cost is $15.00 and can be paid to Ms. Thomas (Room 222) or Ms. Rogers (323). Yearbooks will arrive in early May of 2022. If you would prefer to purchase on-line, please go to https://yearbookforever.com and enter Darby in the school name.

Did You Know? Darby students and their family members are eligible to receive services from the School-Based Health Center (SBHC) located on the Darby Campus.
