A Note from Mr. Wilkerson
Dear McKelvey Community,
It saddens me that I must communicate information about graffiti that has been done to our new playground. I don't yet know who graffitied our school, but I expect to find out. We have cameras at our building and Security will increase patrols in the area. Please have a talk with your children, including any older siblings, about the importance of being respectful of our school property when using our grounds after school hours. If anyone knows or hears anything, I encourage you to reach out to me.
As we move into the 4th week of school, please continue to have conversations around our McKelvey expectations of respect, honesty and kindness with your children.
We had our first Leadership Group meetings yesterday, so please ask your child to tell you which group they belong to and what they did at their first meeting!
Lastly, please continue to send your child to school everyday to help us surpass our goal of 96%.
As always, thank you to the Dragon Community for your support. Please call with any questions or concerns.

Attendance Matters!
Attendance at school is the initial step in achieving academic success. Education is a total process based on continual communication and shared responsibilities among parents, students, teachers, and the school. Unless your child is sick, they need to be at school every day and they need to be here on time.
We miss them when they are not here, and they miss out on valuable learning opportunities that are building blocks to future success.
In this space each week, we will be tracking our attendance progress with the goal of surpassing last year’s attendance achievement of 95.2%. With all of us working together, we can do it!
International Dot Day!
Hi! My name is Shreehan and my name is Adithya and we are a part of the Event Planners Leadership Group. Next week, we will be celebrating something called International Dot Day. This is a day that celebrates being unique, creative and making your mark on the world. In honor of International Dot Day, we encourage everyone to wear dots on Monday, September 16th. You can wear polka dots, circles or another creative option!! Can't wait to see how you decide to make your mark!

Nurse's Notes
Greetings!
Influenza - also known as "the flu" is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat and lungs. There is also a "stomach flu" virus that causes stomach symptoms as well. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccine each year.
McKelvey Intermediate has chosen to offer the influenza vaccine to our students. Participation in this program is strictly voluntary - it is not required.
- The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) will be at McKelvey Intermediate on Friday, October 4th in the morning to administer the flu shot vaccine.
- If you wish for your child to receive the vaccine, please fill out the Flu Shot Permission Form and return to the school nurse by Friday, Sept 27th.
- Please fill out both sides, sign and include a copy of your insurance card. If you do not have insurance, let me know and we will work something out with VNA.
- If you have questions about The flu vaccination, please contact your health care provider.
As always, please call or email me if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Jane L. Sinnott, BSN, RN, NCSN
Nationally Certified School Nurse

McKelvey PTO Needs YOU!
As a parent/guardian of a McKelvey Dragon, you are automatically a member. Please get involved as much as you are able. There are many ways, big and small, to connect and contribute to our school community. PTO's general meetings are led by our PTO Board, a small group of elected parents and teacher representatives. All are invited, and meetings are a great place to share your voice and hear the voices of others. If have any questions, please contact McKelvey PTO at mckelveypto@gmail.com.
