The SWIS SCOOP
Communication 🗣️
Greetings SWIS Families,
We have had an excellent and busy start to the school year getting to know your children, playing team-building games, taking tours around the school, getting to know the routines, and building many new friendships. We also have been practicing all of our safety protocols and were able to have a practice Stay in Place today. The students and staff did an amazing job and the learning continued.
We are looking forward to welcoming all our families to Swanson next week for our grade-level "Know Your School Nights." As a family, you will have the chance to explore our school community, get acquainted with the learning spaces your child visits throughout the day/week, meet your child’s teacher, and experience the welcoming learning environments created for your child.
This event is designed to be a relaxed evening with your child—an opportunity to catch up with friends while also beginning the crucial relationship-building process with your child’s teacher(s). You will also receive details about grade-level expectations, curriculum insights, and the chance to sign up for conferences, volunteer opportunities, email/communication tools, and much more to ensure a successful year. All of us at Swanson are looking forward to a great year ahead and working closely with you, our partners in education.
In closing, please check your child's backpack as many notices and other papers will be going home with them today.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Yours in Education,
Dr. Lopez

GRADE 5 BAND
One of the most exciting opportunities for students in Grade 5 is the ability to learn a band instrument. Students may choose from Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, or Percussion (bells and snare). Students will receive a 30 minute group lesson once every six days as a ‘pullout’ from their schedule.
Instruments can be rented from our local music store, Gerry’s Music. Instruments will be available for pick up at our Fall Rental Night: Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 6:30-7:30 in the Auburn High School Cafeteria. We highly recommend renting an instrument - you’ll receive a high quality instrument that will set your student up for success and will have any necessary repairs/needs covered under the rental agreement. A flyer is attached below with rental information and pricing. If finances prohibit you from renting an instrument, please reach out and we will assist you with procuring an instrument. A link has also been provided to register for the 2024-2025 Band Program.
9/11 TRIBUTE SERVICE PROJECT
Dear Auburn Families,
My name is Hunter Osborn, and I'm Auburn's 2024 Project 351 Ambassador. Project 351 is an independent nonprofit organization that builds a movement of youth-led service by engaging an unsung hero from each of Massachusetts' 351 cities and towns. On September 11th, Project 351 ambassadors from around the state will come together and make 1,000 care packages to send to deployed troops and veterans in local shelters. I need your help in collecting items for these care packages.
There are 3 ways you can help:
1. Donate any of these items and drop off at your child's school: Gum, Chapstick, Granola Bars, Stress Balls, Fidget Spinners.
2.Donate directly to help fund the care packages by clicking on this link: https://givebutter.com/theambassadorfund
3. Shop this Amazon wish list and send the items to your home. Once delivered to your home, you can drop off the item at any APS.https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/926M5IQ0HY5Y?ref_=wl_share
All donations must be dropped off at a donation box by 3:00 PM on Tuesday, September 10th.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me at hosborn28@auburn.k12.ma.us.
