Falcon Flyer
Week of 3/10/25-3/14/25
Principal's Messaage
Falcon Families,
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Family Reading Picnic and Family Literacy Night. Both events had an incredible turnout and were a tremendous success! Overall, seeing our community come together to celebrate literacy during Read Across America was truly special. 💙
At Family Literacy Night, we shared valuable reading strategies, enjoyed dinner, and gave away free books and exciting prizes. A special thank you to our amazing PTA for their generosity in making this dinner event possible!
Parent-teacher conferences are happening this week, and I encourage you to attend with your child. This is a valuable opportunity to connect with their teacher, celebrate progress, and discuss next steps for continued growth. Working together strengthens the home-school partnership because we are better together for the success of our children. Be sure to walk away with one action item that you can immediately implement to support your child’s learning.
Lastly, I encourage you to contribute to Otay's YMCA Fundraiser. Every donation counts! No amount is too small, and even $10 can make a difference. The YMCA plays a vital role in our community, providing free before and after-school childcare. Thank you.

Otay Elementary's Classified Employee of the Year
As an essential part of our cafeteria team, she ensures that every student is served with care and efficiency. Her keen attention to detail and dedication to fostering a welcoming environment make our school a better place each day.
Attendance
Attendance Matters
Last week's attendance was 90.54%. Our goal is 97%.
Otay's Chronic Absence Rate
Thank you, families, for supporting daily attendance! Chronic absenteeism is missing 10% of the school year (about 18 days). We’re making great progress!
The Learning Pit
Continue to ask your child daily: Did you get into the Learning Pit? At Otay, we encourage students to use a growth mindset to face challenges, have a go at something new, try with a willingness to be confused or make mistakes along the way, and to persist in problem solving.
Women's HIstory Month
https://pbskids.org/videos/playlist/pbs-kids-celebrates-womens-history-month/2026581March is Women’s History Month, a time to honor and recognize the incredible contributions of women throughout history and in our community. This month, we celebrate the achievements of women from all walks of life, from pioneers who have broken barriers to the everyday women who make a difference in our lives.

Friendly Reminders
Together we soar! #Partnership
- For safety reasons, students must wear flat, close-toed shoes
- Every minute of instruction counts. If your child forgets snack, lunch, or water, do not worry. Second Chance and lunch will be provided. They also have access to water fountains. We kindly ask that you refrain from dropping off any items. Let’s work together to help our falcons build responsibility.
- Please note that if your child is not picked up on time at dismissal, you'll need to sign them out from the office.
