Leopard Spotlight!
Our Leopard Spotlight Award Winner for 1-19-24 is David Muller. Mr. Muller has been a great addition to the History department. He has brought tons of enthusiasm to his World Geography and AP US History classes. His students greatly benefit from the creative lessons that are provided on a weekly basis. Not only does Mr. Muller support his students in the classroom, but you will also find him supporting them outside of the classroom by attending many of their athletic activities. LHS is very fortunate to have someone like Mr. Muller who gives so much to his students and his colleagues.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year 2024-25 has been experiencing some issues. Users have reported limited availability of the form, long waiting times, problems with creating FSA ID accounts, and issues with the actual FAFSA form. However, the Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) has recently released a list of known issues and suggested workarounds for some problems. The National College Attainment Network (NCAN) recommends that students and their contributors review this list thoroughly to understand the possible issues they may encounter. Some problems may only be resolved once the system is fixed. For more information, please refer to the NCAN's WEBSITE.

Basketball
On January 16, 2024, the Lovejoy Boy's Basketball completed the sweep against fierce district rival Melissa. Freshman and JV dominated with convincing double-digit victories. The varsity bounced back with a thrilling 50-47 win over the Cardinals. Tate Ziemkiewicz led the charge with an impressive 19 point game. The victory springs the Leopards back into the playoff race and creates a high-stakes match up this Friday against the Greenville Lions. The game will be held at Greenville High School. JV will tip-off at 4:30 pm, freshman at 5:30 pm and varsity will go into battle at 7:30 pm.
Majestics In Rome
We are excited to share an incredible performance opportunity recently had by our Majestics team. During the winter holiday, our team traveled with Spirit of America to Rome, Italy and performed in the Rome New Year’s Day Parade. During our time there, we were able to tour and explore Rome including the Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, The Colosseum, Roman Forum, the Catacombs, Vatican City, Vatican Museum, The Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica. We also enjoyed a train ride to Florence, and a short day trip by bus to Pompeii. Together we rang in the New Year with fireworks over The Colosseum, and of course marched and performed in the parade. It was an honor to be chosen by Spirit of America to represent the USA in the Rome New Year’s Day Parade as we were the first public high school to do so! It was truly a once in a lifetime travel and performance opportunity.

Robotics
We are so proud of team 1082R [ Robot Go Vroom Vroom ] for winning the Design Award at the January 13th Southlake Robotics Tournament! They have worked hard throughout the week preparing their robot and team to win this high achievement and they continue to set the example in following a quality engineering design process. Way to go 1082R!
We also saw a great performance by 1082E [ Carbonated Potato ] who fought hard all day through tough matches and they earned their way into the elimination bracket as the highest-ranked LHS robotics team, 5th in qualification rankings. They ended the day as Tournament Finalists and we are so proud of their grit and determination. Big things are up ahead for these teams.
In addition to 1082E and 1082R, the LHS robotics teams 1082J, 1082M, and 1082X also competed and performed well. We are #LovejoyProud of all our robotics students and we hope to see everyone next Saturday, Jan. 27th at our home tournament at LHS! More details to come.
