2024 Band Tryout Results
Last week, each 6th grade student was given the opportunity to play on a variety of band instruments for the purpose of finding an instrument they were both interested in learning & meeting the physical requirements each instrument requires. The students then selected their top 3 instrument preferences and also communicated if they wanted to be in the HMS Band for next year by marking YES, UNDECIDED, or NO.
The tryout results show the students who marked YES. If a student marked UNDECIDED and wants to change to a YES, please contact the HMS Band Director, Mrs. Huffman, at julie.huffman@sdale.org to confirm their instrument placement for next year.
Please keep in mind that some instruments like percussion or saxophone had over 60 requests for a class size limit of 14 or 18. Some students will get their 2nd choice of instrument. Just like athletics, there are only so many spots for certain positions. Tryout scores guide us in these placements.
Parents, please do not purchase any band instruments until you receive the information from the upcoming Band Parent Meeting.
If you can attend, you will receive information for summer shopping, which can help you find the best deals on instruments & supplies.
If you cannot attend, please email Mrs. Huffman so that she can send you the summer shopping information.
There will be a fall meeting in the first 2 weeks of school for those who cannot attend the meeting on May 23rd.
Please note: If you shop for a used instrument or from an online source, please get approval from Mrs. Huffman BEFORE purchasing.
We do have options for families with financial need. Please contact Mrs. Huffman so that she can better assist you if needed.
We have ways to help each child be in the band, no matter the cost.
