A NOTE FROM YOUR PRINCIPALS...
OES Families,
As we bid farewell to February, we celebrate a month filled with exciting learning opportunities and meaningful teaching moments at Opportunity. From engaging classroom projects to insightful parent-teacher collaborations, our community has embraced a spirit of curiosity and growth. As we look forward, let's continue to nurture this spirit together, fostering a supportive environment where every child can thrive.
If you are a 1st Grade parent, from February 27 to March 10, your student will take the Cognitive Abilities Test™ (CogAT®) Screener. The purpose of the letter attached is to inform you about the test so that—with your support and encouragement—your student will do his or her best on the test.
For more information, please visit our website at: https://oes.cvsd.org/ and follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/OpportunityElementaryCVSD/ and Instagram at @opp.es
Best regards,
Mrs. Spence & Mr. Howard

REMINDER...STUDENTS SHOULD NOT ARRIVE AT SCHOOL BEFORE 8:40 /9:40 ON THURSDAYS
Ms. Lippi and Mrs. Svelmoe wanted to kindly ask for your help in reminding your child to bring their PE shoes on health and fitness days. Many students are wearing boots to class, which leave significant marks on the gym floor. Proper athletic shoes not only help keep our floors clean but also ensure your child can move safely and comfortably during class. We truly appreciate your support in helping us maintain a clean and safe space for all our students!
Ms. Lippi & Mrs. Svelmoe
If your family has any gently used leggings, sweat pants, or t-shirts that you are willing to donate to our school, please drop them off at our office in a bag labeled DONATIONS. We will use these donations for children that get wet or messy during the school day. Thank you in advance!

Three Basic Rules for Setting Limits
The happiest and most secure kids have something in common—they have adults in their lives who provide and enforce loving limits. Kids tend to test the very limits they want the most because limits mean love, and limits mean feelings of safety. Unfortunately, many parents set limits that are unenforceable.
We must recognize that we can’t control the actions of others, including our kids. When it comes to setting limits, it’s important to keep this in mind so that we don’t fall into the trap of issuing threats instead of setting real limits. Enforceable limits are based on what we know we can do—threats involve what we wish we could do or control.
Love and Logic teaches us the following principles about setting effective, enforceable limits:
Never tell a stubborn child what to do.
Describe what you are willing to do or allow instead.
Enforceable limits are an essential part of an effective parenting approach. Here are the three basic rules for setting limits with Love and Logic:
1. Treat kids with great respect so that they can see how to treat you.
2. Describe what you are willing to do or allow without telling kids what to do.
3. Follow through with empathy and actions, rather than anger, lectures, threats, or repeated warnings.
Here are some examples of enforceable versus unenforceable limits:
Unenforceable: Don’t shout at me!
Enforceable: I listen to people who don’t yell.
Unenforceable: Pick up your toys!
Enforceable: Feel free to keep the toys that you pick up.
In our new audio, The Gift of Limits: Why Kids Who Have Them Feel Safer and More Loved, you will hear practical tips on how to use these three rules to set effective limits with your kids and learn more about how to set enforceable limits.

HOOPS FOR HEART-Great opportunity to play ball and earn funds for our Health & Fitness Department
Hello All,
We are in need of additional teams to make this tournament happen!
Currently we are at 8 teams total for six divisions, for being district wide we only have 4 schools represented so far.
Can you please print out and post around your gyms/school/main office the flyer?
If we can’t get at least 4 teams per divisions we will have to cancel divisions or combine grades or genders or perhaps the entire event.
Please help to push this event, it is awesome when kids get there and play, even if they have never played before.
All the registration fees go to CVSD Elem. H&F departments!
Thanks so much!
