The Minnesota Catholic Conference wants to inform parents of the governor’s budget proposal, released this January, that targets Minnesota’s nonpublic school community by eliminating nonpublic pupil aid and transportation aid—cutting more than $100 million in aid over two years. This proposal defunds essential services such as busing, textbooks, school nurse, and counseling that support students regardless of their school choice.

Currently, we receive funds to purchase our textbooks, a school nurse 2 days a week and hopefully counseling will be reinstated at our school. This would greatly affect our school budget if the funds are eliminated.

We need the following adult volunteers each week:

• Dining Room-help serve food, coffee (adults only)
• Dessert Table (2 adults, or 1 parent/student)
• Scullery (2 adults or 1 parent/student)
• Food prep on Thursdays--adults
• Bussing tables--Students, grades 5-8
• Ticket Table--Adults only
• Help with Take-out orders--Students, grades 5-8

This week kicks off afterschool bible studies!

This time is set aside for your students to go deeper in prayer and friendship with one another. As a reminder of what we'll be doing, there will be a particular emphasis on getting to know scripture and how to truly encounter Jesus’ love through His Word. There will of course also be time for fun; we’ll start every bible study with open youth room and, when possible, open gym time. Snacks will be available for $1.

Each grade will have their own day and will meet every other week. This week, Monday (Feb. 3rd) is for the 8th grade and Thursday (Feb. 6th) is for 7th grade. Next week will be for the 6th and 5th graders. Your student can come late or leave early but we will be ending consistently at 3:45. The complete schedule was sent in an earlier email but will also be posted outside of the youth room. There is no registration necessary.

Every May, we celebrate National Teacher Appreciation week (May 5-9, 2025) by planning special events and gifts to recognize our incredible teachers. This year, PTC and SAC are joining forces to create a campaign of events throughout the second half of the year. The goal is to build community while generating a gift that will show our teachers how grateful we are for their incredible dedication. All events will be cash only.

We have a variety of fun events lined up, including Bingo, Family Movie Night, Non-Uniform Days, Trivia and more. Details for each event will be shared in the weekly school newsletter as the date approaches. The first event is right around the corner!

The time is now to apply for a Sacred Heart and Aim Higher scholarship for the 2025-2026 school year.

Sacred Heart Catholic School uses TADS Financial Aid Assessment to determine the needs of each family that applies for a scholarship. Families will be required to apply for a scholarship by the given deadline as the school and parish have limited resources and Aim Higher has a deadline of February 28, 2025. Aim Higher scholarships must submit an annual application each year to qualify.

PER OUR POLICY, NO SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE GIVEN WITHOUT A TADS APPLICATION.

MN Fundraising Initiative (MNFI) secures contracts with over 23 venues in the greater Twin Cities area including Target Field, Target Center, Canterbury, and US Bank to operate food and beverage concessions stands at their events.

MNFI organizes teams of volunteers from all over the state of MN and WI who work together to run these stands. In turn, MNFI receives donations from these venues. The donations are then used to award grants to families in local communities to allow youth to attend private school, such as Sacred Heart Catholic School and participate in enrichment activities they may not otherwise be able to enjoy. Checks are mailed directly to Sacred Heart in your name.

Many of our school families use this organization to help pay for tuition.

The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis requires the Essential 3 for volunteers who work with students in Catholic schools or parishes. All employees must also complete the Essential 3. ****Cell phones do not work well for Essential 3 and you will receive an error message. Please use a computer.

****The Archdiocese requires all volunteers to renew the Essential 3 requirements every 3 years. You will receive an email message when your account is up for renewal.
