A Note From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I want to express my sincere gratitude for your outstanding support during our recent Fun Run fundraiser. Your participation and generous contributions have had a profound impact on our school community. Thanks to your efforts, we were able to raise an impressive profit of approximately $28,000 for our school! Your support enables us to enhance educational opportunities and provide valuable resources to our students, and for that, we are truly grateful.
I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students and staff. As part of our commitment to safety, we will be conducting school safety drills this month, following the Standard Response Protocols. Your cooperation and understanding during these drills are greatly appreciated.
With Halloween just around the corner, we are excited to celebrate this festive occasion with our students. On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, students are welcome to come to school dressed in costumes. We have planned a day filled with seasonal and classroom-appropriate activities. To add to the excitement, we will be hosting a school-wide outdoor parade starting at 11:00 AM (weather permitting). Parents are encouraged to join us outside as our students parade around the perimeter of the school building.
In the spirit of promoting a healthy and inclusive environment, we kindly request that no candy or food items be brought into the classrooms. Instead, we encourage students to choose costumes that reflect positive role models, such as book or movie characters and animals. At Messmore, we are dedicated to teaching our students how to solve problems in a non-violent manner, and we appreciate your cooperation in fostering this positive atmosphere.
Additionally, I want to inform you about the upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences. These conferences are an invaluable opportunity for us to discuss your child's progress in person. We are offering both in-person and virtual (online) sessions for your convenience. To schedule your conference, we will be using a user-friendly web-based system called School Soft. Look out for a separate email with detailed instructions on how to schedule your conference. The conference dates are as follows:
- **Thursday, November 9, 2023:** 12:30 - 3:30 PM & 4:30 - 7:30 PM
- **Tuesday, November 14, 2023:** 4:30 - 7:30 PM
Your active involvement and collaboration are crucial to the success of our school, and we look forward to these meaningful discussions about your child's academic journey.
Once again, thank you for your continued support and dedication to our school community. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. Together, we can make this school year a truly enriching experience for our students.
Warm regards,
Renee Fiema, Ed.D.

Montessori Peace Education
Dr. Maria Montessori believed that peace education was crucial for the holistic development of children and, by extension, for the betterment of society as a whole.
Here are the key components of Montessori Peace Education:
1. Cultivating Inner Peace: Montessori classrooms provide a peaceful and respectful environment where children can focus on self-discovery and inner peace. Children are encouraged to explore their emotions, develop self-control, and learn conflict resolution skills.
2. Respect for Others: Montessori education emphasizes the importance of respecting the individuality and dignity of every person, regardless of their background, culture, or abilities. Children learn to appreciate and celebrate differences, fostering a sense of unity and understanding among diverse groups.
3. Conflict Resolution: Montessori classrooms teach children effective ways to resolve conflicts peacefully. Children are guided in communication skills, active listening, and empathy, enabling them to navigate disagreements constructively.
4. Global Awareness: Montessori Peace Education extends beyond the classroom, teaching children about different cultures, traditions, and global issues. Through stories, discussions, and hands-on activities, children develop an understanding of the interconnectedness of the world, promoting a sense of global citizenship.
5. Promoting Justice and Equity: Montessori Peace Education instills a sense of justice and fairness in children. They learn about social and environmental issues and are encouraged to explore ways they can contribute to positive change, promoting a sense of responsibility towards the welfare of others and the planet.
6. Conflict Transformation: Montessori teaches children that conflicts are natural but also opportunities for growth and understanding. They are guided in transforming conflicts into learning experiences, emphasizing cooperation and collaboration.
7. Empathy and Compassion: Children are encouraged to develop empathy and compassion for others, both within their immediate community and the broader world. These values form the foundation for peaceful interactions and relationships.
Proactive
Peace Education Virtues
Montessori Peace Education aims to nurture individuals who not only value peace but actively contribute to creating a more peaceful and harmonious world. To help us instill these principles we will focus on a virtue each card marking that integrates into our Montessori Peace Education.
For the first card marking we will recognize students that take proactive steps to foster peace, harmony, and social understanding. Students will be nominated to receive a peacemaker award and be recognized at our first peace assembly on November 21, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. Parents of a nominated student will be invited.

Pajama Drive
Messmore Creators Lego Robotics Team
For the month of October, the Messmore Creators will be hosting a Pajama Drive for Friends of Foster Kids. Many foster children leave home with little to no belongings. Let’s give them something new and cozy to help them feel more secure. We believe every child has the right to a comforting bedtime routine shared with a loving caregiver. Together, let’s give them a successful start!
Join in and donate brand new pajamas in any size. All sizes are needed, newborn all the way up to 20 yrs old. Donate between NOW and October 31st, donations can be dropped off at Messmore's lobby.
Thank you for considering this critical need and helping foster families with new pajamas for their little ones.

Lunch/Recess Supervisors Needed!
Are you interested in seeing whether or not your child is eating their lunch? Are you curious as to who your child's friends are? Do you like to help? Then this may be the job for you!
We are in need of lunchroom and lunch recess supervisors. This can be a paid position, if you're interested. Or it can be just on a volunteer basis. If you are interested in getting paid for your time as a lunchroom and lunch recess supervisor, then please see the attached information below regarding EduStaff and follow those directions. If you are interested in just volunteering, all I would need is a Criminal History Check Form filled out and submitted, if you have not already done so.
If you are interested in beginning the process, please reach out to Sarah in the main office (Sarah.Szadek@uticak12.org). We really need help on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
