This week...
As you may well know, it has been SATs Week for Year 6 children across the country, but this is not the only exciting thing we've had going on in school this week!
Our children have been demonstrating the virtue of kindness in all sorts of ways, and have made us all so proud to be part of such a super school community.
Have a look below to find further information about some of the wonderful things happening at St Joseph's. There are even more photos and videos on our Twitter/Facebook accounts!
Next week promises to be another busy and exciting week, so please take a moment to have a quick look at the 'upcoming dates' section below.
Well done for another great week, Team St Joseph's!
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
Virtue - Kindness
It was wonderful to find some of our younger children praying to Mary on Monday, to ask her to help our Year 6s to do their best in their SATs! Such a great example of the virtue of kindness in action. Thank you, children - you are inspiring!
Kindness Walk
This morning, our lovely Mini Vinnies went on a Kindness Walk around Tadcaster! The children made tags, with kind words, and brought in their own savings to buy flowers.
We then put the tags on the flowers and gave these to people in our local community.
We saw so many smiles! It was fantastic to know that our children had managed to brighten so many people's days. Well done, Mini Vinnies!
SATs Breakfasts!
We hosted SATs breakfasts for our Year 6s all week! The children were able to enjoy a nutritious and fun start to each day. It was incredible to see just how many waffles, pancakes, bananas and yoghurts can be consumed in one sitting!
One of Y6s said, "I thought SATs week was supposed to be awful. How come it's the best week ever...?!"
Thank you to our super staff team for ALWAYS going above and beyond for our children!
Year 6 Treat!
After working so hard during their SATs papers this week, the Year 6s were given a very special treat! We took them to Costa Coffee for a drink! We are so proud of our children and how fantastically they applied themselves this week. Thank you so much to our wonderful Friends of St Joseph's for funding this very well-earned treat!
Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 91.87%
Our attendance has been poor this week - significantly below national average.
We know that a few families had already booked term-time holidays last year, before they realised the impact on our children. We are hoping that families are now much more aware and won't be booking term-time holidays in the future.
Thank you for your help in supporting our children to achieve their best!
We have been learning...
St Nicholas (Nursery)
Our two-year olds have been developing their scientific enquiry skills this week. We got out the magnifying glasses, and the children investigated our growing snails!
St Francis (Preschool/Reception)
This week, we have continued our 'in the garden' topic! We have enjoyed, 'planting flowers' using playdough and pipe cleaners and exploring rainbow colour sorting in the water play. We have been preparing the peas to be moved outside - look how tall they are! We are taking great care looking after our carrots, tomatoes, potatoes and turnips in the garden. We have also been busy making our own characters from 'Bill and Ben' using junk modelling in the creative area.
St Bernadette (Y1/Y2)
In Maths this week, we've been learning about mass and capacity. We decided to get interactive, to deepen understanding and context, which resulted in us balancing ourselves with a see-saw! Maths is fun!
St Patrick (Y3/Y4)
St Patrick's Class have been learning about St. Peter and St. Stephen and how they spread the good news. We made mind maps to show how they helped spread the word of God and their lives on Earth and their legacies after they died. We also reflected on the Ascension of the Lord, using art after last week's Mass.
St Therese (Y5/Y6)
This week in RE, we have been creating artwork to represent the lives of St Peter and/or St Paul, especially looking at symbols to represent aspects of their lives and the changes that took place because of their time with Jesus.
