The Principal's Jam
JMS Community,
One of the most important skills we can teach students is to have empathy for others. Having empathy involves listening to others, taking on another's perspective, and acting in the others' best interest. At Jolliff, especially in the month of November when we've settled into the year's routines and daily disputes are boiling over, we want to help students act with empathy and compassion first. That's not always easy, when a classmate has said something hurtful , a student has been disrespectful toward a staff member, or a a previous friend has posted something cruel on social media. However, if patient, compassion, and empathy are the expected responses to conflict, I feel confident our Jags will rise to the occasion most of the time.
November is a month of reflection on the things we are to be thankful for. I am thankful for this incredible school community with so many incredible families. Our Jags daily show me all the ways they care and serve one another. This month's edition will highlight some different ways to serve our community- through the SCA canned food drive, by supporting our military families and veterans, and by showing up in the lives of one another.
So what are you thankful for, Jaguars?
Sincerely,
Mr. John Close
Principal
