Colver Rd. property added to Talent UGB
TALENT – The Talent City Council unanimously approved to annex the Phoenix-Talent School District’s Colver Road property into Talent’s city limits on Wednesday at the Talent Community Center as the district cleared a major hurdle in its effort to develop the land.
PTS superintendent Brent Barry, Phoenix High boys soccer coach Chris Gallegos, four Phoenix High School soccer players and PTS community care specialist Katie McCormick, among others, spoke to the council in support of the ordinance before the vote. The ordinance carried with 6-0 approval.
“We’ve had many exciting times in our district over the last several years and I think this is one of them as well,” Barry told the council.
A Colver Fields Master Plan document created by ZCS Engineering Architecture and presented to stakeholders last fall included concept renderings of the site at 6100 Colver Road that featured a baseball/softball field, three new Little League fields, two soccer fields and a multipurpose field in addition to existing baseball and softball fields. It also showcased buildings for the Boys and Girls Club and Talent Elementary’s Outdoor Discovery Program.
What the developed land will include and when construction will begin are details yet to be determined, but the students on hand Wednesday told the council that adding soccer facilities at the site would be a major win for the district’s renowned soccer program.
“There’s been so many kids that I’ve interacted with, I’ve got to know that are amazing players,” PHS sophomore Ahvin Olsen said, “and they have a great future ahead of them and I believe that putting in turf fields at Colver would help progress their skills even more and make a great impact in their lives.”
