What Does The Fox Say?
September 19, 2024
Below, find a community letter from Ms. Falcone, 5th Grade Teacher
Dear Parent/Guardian,
I grew up in a household where you give respect to get respect and that was the name of the game. Whether someone was 5 years old or 50 years old, my dad taught me very young that respect is a two-way-street no matter what. When I started elementary school, the more time I spent there, the more I realized that many people were not raised that way, including my teachers. There were several times that I felt disrespected by teachers, which would leave me feeling unheard, frustrated, and on-edge. By the time high school rolled around and I had decided that teaching was the direction I wanted to head in, I started being more observant of teachers and their teaching strategies. I found the classrooms that had the most engaged and happy students were the ones where students felt heard, seen, and, of course, respected.
When I got the job at Inspire, I was happy and when I toured the school about a month later, I was ecstatic. All those values I was raised with were demonstrated everywhere I looked. Not only do the staff make students feel respected, but the students reciprocate that feeling towards staff. Some of my favorite memories here are watching students display a level of respect that is far beyond their years, whether it’s advocating for themselves when they have been wronged or giving classmates grace when they are having a hard day. The Inspire Way is a clear demonstration of what the school values the most; caring for yourself, others, and the environment. Raising kind and respectful humans is not an easy thing to do, but the parents and staff of Inspire Elementary make it look like it. To sum it all up, I couldn’t be happier to be a teacher at this school and I consider myself lucky to have such an incredible staff with me and support system for these children.
Thank you for everything you do and (as my students know) don’t let yesterday take up too much of today! :)
- Ms. Falcone
