First Day of School at Claywell

As a parent I understand you apprehension and excitement. We welcome our parents to come on site and drop their child off at their classroom. We also ask that you quickly drop your child off and exit the campus. We don't wan emotions to build up and then the child doesn't want to leave you. We will have staff around our campus that will be wearing light blue shirts to help you out.

Our first day is all about the students getting to know one another and the teacher. We review school and classroom procedures with our students and our most important focus is getting your children back to you safely.

We are one of a hundred schools that serve breakfast and lunch for free. In light of the price for food save yourself some money and let your kids have two meals at Claywell. The meals are good and they are filling. If you would like your child to have an additional snack account you will need to set that up yourself.

We are not a peanut free school, and cannot guarantee that peanuts or peanut butter products will be in our school. We do have an allergy table for students who have specific allergies if you would prefer them to sit at that table with a friend.

We dismiss one hour early tomorrow and all Mondays for the rest of the year. If there is every a change to an early dismissal Monday we will communicate that to you.

Students that missed less then ten percent of the year scored on average 20 percent higher than those students who had excessive absences. Our curriculum is dependent on your child being in school and on time everyday. Each day builds on the next day, and that is usually the keys to our success for many of our students. Please do what you need to do to get your child to our school at least 10 minutes before the bell each day. You child is considered on time if they are in their homeroom before the bell rings. We truly do capture every minute each day and we are efficient with the time we have.

Our first day we work out glitches. The buses did a practice run on Thursday and Friday of last week. They may be to the bus stop a few minutes early and may be a few minutes late. Please make sure your child is at the bus stop about ten minutes prior to the bus time.

Car Line

The car line will also take a bit longer, but with the Curbsmart system it gets better quickly. We ask that you do a few things for us. They are below.

• Please adhere to our signs in our parking lot.
• Please put your phone down while driving.
• Please do not get out of your car. Make sure your child gets out on the sidewalk in our car line and do not let them get out on the street.
• VPK parents in the morning make sure your car tag is easily visible.
• Everyone picking up in the afternoon please make sure your car tag is visible, and anyone who is picking up your child needs to have the curbsmart number easily visible for our personnel to efficiently put in the number.
