How is baseball like school?
Hello Panther Families!
We have had a FANTASTIC first 7 days of school! Honestly, it's been one of the best starts we have had in the past 8 years I've been principal.
Last week, Mrs. Wilson (assistant principal) and I read to every K-8 classroom (pre-K will come soon!). In 1st-5th we read The Thing Lenny Loves Most About Baseball. After we read the book we asked all the classes what they thought the message was that we can apply as New Prospect students. They were wonderful at coming up with Lenny not giving up when he wasn't good at something right away (baseball). He had perseverance and patience and put in hard work to get good at something he set his mind to. There was also a message in there of not having to be good ALL the time....that perfection is not the goal. I will also say that Lenny's Dad played an important role in his success too. He was encouraging when Lenny wanted to give up, but kept exposing him to the topic and helping him practice. He did not lower the standard, but helped his son make short term obtainable goals and cheered him on to meet those goals. He never did the work for his son. If you do the work for your child, they will not get better, ever. If you are not encouraging but always pointing out the negative, then they will give up on things that are hard. Please Panther Parents, be like Lenny's Dad. :)
Speaking of being postive....we had an absolutely EPIC pep rally on Friday! We reviewed our PAWS expectations, did our house chants and listed to the Alpharetta drum line! We also were encouraged by the Alpharetta fall athletes, including the cheerleaders! Check out the amazing pictures below!
Please reach out if you need anything from me and I hope to see you Friday!

iReady Diagnostic Testing
As you may have read from your grade level emails, we have started with iReady Diagnostic Testing this week in 1st -5th grade and we will start in Kindergarten at the end of next week. The iReady Diagnostic is a nationally normed assessment that is required by Fulton County of all students K-5 at the start and middle of the school year. This diagnostic provides our teachers with a lot of great data on how students are performing independently in both reading and math based on our state standards. This assessment is not used for a grade but is used as an instructional data point for the start of the school year.
The iReady platform also has a feature of personalized student lessons that adapt to the students performance. You may hear your child say they did some iReady while at school or need to at home and this is referring to their personalized lessons, not the diagnostic assessment. These lessons are a great tool that allows students to have exposure to different lessons as a possible review, reteach, or extension throughout the year.
2nd-5th Headphones Needed
It is REALLY Important that you child has headphones at school. Especially in 2nd-5th. If you haven't purchased headphones from you child as a part of their school supplies, PLEASE buy them using the amazon link below. They must have a USB port.
