National Black History Month is held in the United States each year in February. In 1926, historian Carter G. Woodson developed "Negro History Week" to recognize the efforts and achievements of Black Americans, particularly those who were not featured in the mainstream historical narrative.

President Gerald Ford expanded the week-long event into a month-long observance in 1976 to acknowledge the important contributions made by Black Americans throughout the country's history.

This month, events and activities are held to recognize and honor African Americans'

contributions to American history, culture, and society.

CODING IN THE LIBRARY

Come in any day to learn and practice coding using blocks to move a cute little animal figure through a maze shown on the iPAD. Everything is provided, including the instructor.

In kid-friendly terms, coding is using a set of instructions to communicate with computers. There are different coding languages, and they all have different rules and uses, but they all give computers instructions on how to do a specific task.
