Dear Los Pen Families,


Will you be celebrating this evening? We have reached the end of our second trimester for this school year! As I sat with staff members during the past few weeks to discuss our students' progress, I was impressed and proud of how much growth so many of our children have made in different areas. Your partnership as family members has been an integral piece of that student achievement, and I thank you for collaborating with our incredibly dedicated staff.


Continuing Registration is open now! We want to see our students back next school year! Please see the Continuing Registration information below.


Remember, there is no school for LPES students this coming Monday, March 10th.

Online Continuing Student Registration will be open from February 28 - March 31, 2025. We must receive a completed digital packet for all returning students. This will allow for proper placement of your student(s) for the 2025-2026 school year. This annual digital process allows a family to complete one single “family” packet instead of completing one packet per student. Packets can be completed using any computer, tablet, or smartphone with an internet connection.


Continuing Registration Steps:

  1. Login and complete the digital registration packet via the online registration portal found here.

  2. Review and complete any required forms located at the conclusion of the process. A packet is not considered finalized until this step is completed.


Please note: THERE WILL BE AN ENROLLMENT CONFIRMATION PROCESS IN AUGUST AND YOUR PARTICIPATION WILL BE ESSENTIAL TO ENSURE A SMOOTH START TO THE SCHOOL YEAR.


MEDICATION FORMS and ADDITIONAL SIGNED SITE SPECIFIC FORMS WILL NOT BE COLLECTED UNTIL SCHOOL BEGINS IN AUGUST FOR THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR.

Also, TK IS A FULL-DAY PROGRAM FOR 2025-26!


Beginning in the 2025-26 school year, PUSD Transitional Kindergarten will be a full-day program.


The range of age-eligibility will also expand - children who turn four-years-old on or before September 1, 2025, will be age-eligible for TK. (Students who turn five-years-old on or before September 1, 2025 will be age-eligible for Kindergarten). Enrollment for TK for 2025-26 school year opens on April 1, 2025. Please feel free to share this news with your friends and neighbors who have children in this age range.

A Note from Your Counselor

The idea of a Comfort Box is to have all of your “comfort” treats, playful items, and soothing tools in place in times of stress or when needing comfort. Take the time to make one for a friend or family member, or a neighbor who needs a little TLC. Then, take time to make one for yourself. You can start with the person and the things that they like, or start with the box, and add things that will bring someone joy. I always love to have bubbles and Kleenex.

Step 1: Pick out a box. A shoe box will work great and it has a lid. You can take time to decorate your box with wrapping paper, aluminum foil, stickers, or pictures cut out from a magazine.

Step 2: Grab favorite items, such as a book, tea, can of soda, game, bubbles, essential oils, coloring book, and crayons.

Step 3: A box of Kleenex. It is important to release emotion and allows the tears to come.

Step 4: Favorite treat. Ending a good cry with a piece of chocolate or Jolly Rancher.


Step 5: Write a note. Creating a little note of encouragement is always a positive. Hearing the words of others can help.

Community Traffic Updates

The City of San Diego is about to begin a construction project in our area that will affect our traffic during arrival and dismissal. Attached is a construction notice and map area of where work will take place (adjacent to our school).


Work is anticipated to begin soon, pending weather delays. Access to driveways should not be impeded. There may just be a slight delay as they work to improve the street. Work will begin with sidewalks and curb ramps next week, and that will be about one week. They are expected to return a few weeks later and work on repaving the road, and that will take another one to two weeks.


Please plan accordingly for potential traffic delays. Your patience and cooperation is greatly appreciated.

School Year 2025-2026 Enrollment Information

It’s hard to believe it but it’s already time to begin to think about the 2025-2026 school year!

Here are some important dates to mark on your calendars:


  • Transfer Requests - beginning on February 1st at 8:00 am, we will accept transfer requests for students who live in the Poway Unified boundaries and would like to attend a different Poway school. This includes incoming siblings of current students, as well as students who have not yet enrolled. Transfer requests can be made on the Poway Unified website by clicking THIS link. The transfer window closes on March 31st at 5:00 pm.


  • Continuing Student Registration - from February 28 - March 31st, all parents whose current students will continue in Poway Unified for the 2025-26 school year need to complete online continuing registration. Look for more information coming soon.


  • New Student Enrollment - beginning on April 1st at 8:00 am, new student enrollment opens on the Poway Unified website. We are excited to welcome our new students!

LPES Science Fair - Coming Soon!

We are excited to announce that Los Pen will be hosting its very first Science Fair this Spring! Projects may be submitted by students in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th. All students are welcome to attend the Science Fair in the MPR to view the projects.
