Principal Newsletter Notes
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Keep Up with What's Going on at the Hill!
Hi Bulldog Families,
I want to start this newsletter by giving a huge shout out to our bulldog students. Beside the challenges that come with the start of a new year like learning schedules, new technologies and new friends, Bunker Hill unfortunately was faced with additional challenges. I am so impressed with the maturity, responsibility and citizenship I have seen from our students. I am so proud of each and everyone of them for persevering, working together and seeking solutions. I am grateful for the families that also have to navigate these challenges with us. At the end of the day, once again, the Bulldog community is the best there is. I thank every member of that community especially our Washington Township police department. I encourage everyone to continue to build friendships, stay focused on academics and if you see something, say something. I hope for only more good things to come.
September is a busy month with students already crushing our World's Finest Chocolate fundraiser! We also have the 8th grade MUM sale and the 6th grade Stock Pound Cake! Additionally, our SPIRIT WEAR STORE is open. Click the link above. Don't forget your permission slip for the 6th grade dance this Thursday. The forms are attached below. Back to School Night will be from 6:15-8:30. The format will be slightly different than years prior. We will have time for teacher presentations, schedule practice as well as technology information sessions. More information will be provided next week. We can't wait to see you all!
Sincerely,
Ms. Egizi

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! - Lin-Manuel Miranda
Lin-Manuel Miranda is an actor, playwright, composer, rapper, and writer. He was born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents. He is best known for creating and starring in the Broadway musicals In the Heights and Hamilton. Both productions won the prestigious Tony Award for Best Musical, and Hamilton also took home the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
In the Heights reveals the joys and heartbreaks of a vibrant, tight-knit Latino community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood from the perspective of a bodega (corner store) owner. Hamilton is about the life of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Born in the British West Indies, Hamilton was determined to make his mark on his adopted country, America, despite facing many challenges. The work blends historical accuracy with contemporary hip-hop music and features a multiracial and multicultural cast.
Now watch this 2010 interview, in which Lin-Manuel Miranda discusses with Maria Hinojosa why his Broadway productions are rooted in stories that are both authentic to his Latino heritage and connect to a broader national American identity. As you watch, consider how Miranda describes the challenges that he faced, his goals, and what he did that ultimately propelled him to achieve his dream.
