Curtis Chronicles
August 14, 2023
Welcome from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock
Cougar families,
We’ve had a great start to the school year! You may have noticed our Believe shirts at Meet the Teacher or on the first day of school. Our theme this year is ‘Believe’. We will be focusing on helping kids believe in themselves and what they can do as well as believing in working together as a school to support each other and have fun! Our staff believes in the job they are here to do and we believe in your kids. We also believe that when schools and families work together kids benefit in all areas. We encourage you to reach out to the school first, instead of social media, when you have concerns or questions. You won’t always get accurate information from social media and we want you to have the accurate information you need directly from us so we can work together to support your children and address your concerns. We believe in the power of working together!
Our lunch lines have gone pretty smoothly the first two days, but a little slow as students learn the new process at middle school. We want all parents to know that we give students passes to class who may have gotten through the lines last so they have time to eat. Teachers do not penalize them for staying to eat. We also announce to kids in the cafeteria that it’s ok to stay and finish eating. Please reinforce this at home, so they know it’s ok. Hungry kids struggle to focus on learning and we want to make sure we get them fed. Also, if you haven’t put money in the new online account system, you can send money with your child to school to deposit in the cafeteria accounts before 10:00 AM. They can deposit that money in the front office or in the cafeteria in the morning before school.
We have started distributing devices to students to use this school year. The $30.00 insurance fee needs to be paid by September 30 for this school year. Students who do not have insurance may not be issued a second device if theirs gets broken, so it’s important to get that taken care of so your child has access to a device. Here is the link to pay the insurance: 8th grade students who did not turn in a charger at the end of the school year, were not issued a charger this year. You will need to purchase a charger through Amazon or through the district if you cannot find the charger you were given last year.
Our buses were running a little behind schedule the first two days due to traffic and parents getting back into routines for pick up. We appreciate your patience with them and our transportation department as they are working to get on schedule and get your students home as quickly as possible. In the afternoons, students who ride the bus wait inside in the cafeteria until their bus arrives at school, then we send them out to get on. Students do not wait outside for their bus to arrive after school. Transportation is also aware that some buses are full and will be working on that over the next few weeks. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work together to safely get thousands of students safely to and from schools.
We look forward to a great year with your kids and with you!
Sincerely,
Sonya Pitcock
