B. School Safety Grant Presentation
Boyertown Area School District was awarded three Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) grants totaling more than $525K. Established by law in 1978, PCCD serves as the justice planning and policymaking agency for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
On hand to present the Board of School Directors with the grant funding were PA State Representative David Maloney, Representative Donne Scheuren, and Senator Tracy Pennycuick.
During the public meeting, BASD Acting Superintendent Michael Stoudt shared the district’s plans for the funding.
The first grant, in the amount of just under $45, 000 will be used to fund equipment that will further enhance Security Monitoring Systems across the district. These funds will be used for the following: Dell 27 USB-C Hub Monitor, OptiPlex All-in-One (7410 Energy Efficient Processor), Mobile Precision 3581, and Precision 3260 Compac equipment.
Stoudt stated that the district plans to use a second grant in the amount of more than $297,000 to fund two School Police Officers who will provide additional coverage at our high school of 2200 students, as well as to provide another officer to support the remaining (8) school buildings without full time police coverage. In addition, the district will install concrete barriers for additional security at locations identified as part of physical security assessments of our buildings.
Finally, the third grant, totaling more than $182K is to be used for School Mental Health Programming for students. The district plans to fund an expansion of social worker services district-wide, as well as a drug and alcohol counselor.
Implementation of the planned enhancements and new programming has already begun.
