JOIN US TOMORROW FROM 10am to 1pm!!! There will be fun for the whole family!
Message from our Principal
Dear Washington-Caldwell Parents:
The top priority for the staff and administration of the Washington-Caldwell School District is to maintain a safe and positive environment for our students. We expect individuals who attend school events, whether at Washington-Caldwell or another school, to abide by the same expectations.
Unfortunately, Wednesday night at the girls basketball game at Paris Consolidated School District, some of our fans failed to meet these expectations. This resulted in the premature ending of the game. More importantly, our players were visibly shaken and upset by the unacceptable conduct of some of our spectators. So much so that the coach determined that resuming the game was not possible due to the emotional state of the team as a whole.
As a result of this unacceptable conduct and subsequent review, I am sharing WCSD Board policy to communicate the seriousness of last nightโs events. I have already shared this situation with Stacey Forkner, the WCSD Board President.
WCSD Board policy 9160 specifically states the following:
The Board holds the legal authority to bar the attendance of or remove any person whose conduct may constitute a disruption on District property or at a school event. School administrators have the authority to call law enforcement officials if a person violates posted regulations or does not leave District property when requested. They are also authorized to use detectors and other devices to better protect the safety and well-being of participants and visitors.
The District will be addressing this and any future events based upon WCSD Board policy.
I also want to share with all families that I have spoken with administration at Paris Consolidated regarding the unacceptable spectator behavior at Wednesdayโs game. I apologized on behalf of our school and shared that we live by higher standards than what was displayed last night.
If you have any questions, please contact me directly at 262-662-3466 or via email at kmccormick@washcald.com.
Sincerely,
Kevin

Student ID Cards
Student ID cards are going home with your students today. Students in grades 6-8 should keep them in good working order and in a safe place as they may need them if they plan on participating in WashCald or other middle school events.
Things You Can Do to Raise A Reader
Give your reader something to think and talk about: There are many different types of books available to readers. Vary the types of books you check out from the library, and seek out new subjects that give you and your reader something to think and talk about.
Lost & Found
Thank you for picking up items you recognize! Some things have been claimed but there are still some left! Check out the pictures to identify any of these pieces that may belong to your student. Have your students pick up the item or let us know what belongs to you! Items not claimed will be donated next week.
New LEGO Club Format
We need to change the format of the ever popular LEGO Club - We have had an overwhelming number of students that want to join in the LEGO fun. Because of this we have divided LEGO Club nights by the first letter in the last name. Please see the flyer below for the day your student can attend LEGO Club. And as always, a paper note must be received the morning of LEGO Club.

TYB Skills Session ๐
Racine County Literacy Program
Racine Literacy Council will be offering a FREE Family Literacy Program starting on November 12-December 17, 2024, running on Tuesday nights from 5:30-7:30pm at Waller Elementary School in the Library. Flyers are attached to this email. This program is for families with children ages 3-high school.
To provide you a little more information about the 2 hour program and what it entails:
- The first 20-30 minutes is a Family Building Activity w/whole family unit - the focus of this activity is relationship building/family strengthening through literacy activities
- Then, they will separate the kids and parents into groups for the next hour of the program. During this time, the kids will be in learning groups by age and/or literacy needs. They will match tutors based on kids' needs. They will do activities focused on literacy in movement, reading, games, social-emotional literacy, and can work on homework or just general reading, too. They have had kids ages 3-high school in the program.
- During this time, the parents are working on their own learning needs, whether that is just improving their reading and writing skills, learning more about how to help their kids with homework at home, EL, GED prep, job search/exploration/resume writing, digital literacy, financial literacy, etc, etc.- basically whatever the parents would like to work on literacy-related. RLC would do a needs assessment prior to starting, as well as assess the parent (and child) reading/writing or English literacy. This helps them match tutors to families/kids.
- The last 20-30 minutes of the session focuses on parenting topics (some ideas might be: how to engage with teachers during P-T conferences, how to collaborate/communicate with the school/teachers, parenting styles, parenting values, executive functioning, etc.) OR parent-child together time bringing everyone back together again and parent/child chooses an activity for their family to do (i.e could be reading together, literacy family enrichment activity/game, craft, etc).
RLC provides all the tutors. They have Spanish speaking tutors available. There is no cost to families. Registration is necessary so RLC can assess the family's goals, as well as insure they have enough tutors available to support who is in attendance. All of the tutors have been background checked and vetted. They are also always looking for volunteer tutors, if that is something people would like to volunteer for.
