MS 50 Updates: Week of May 6, 2024

Welcome back to the Weekly Newsletter! Tomorrow and Wednesday are the Math State Exams for our 6th and 7th Graders and our 8th Grade students will take practice Algebra and Living Environment Regents Exams. We are so excited for our students to get the chance to share their knowledge and see their growth over the course of the school year. Make sure your students get a good night of sleep and a healthy breakfast to start their day!


Due to state testing, ELT is cancelled this Wednesday except for sports teams, policy debate, and SHSAT prep. ELT will resume on Thursday.

Champion's Dinner and Resource Fair

We cordially invite you to our Champions Dinner on May 16, 2024 from 5:00-8:00pm where our community comes together to celebrate all of our achievements from the current school year and envision our school year ahead. There will be a community resource fair from 5:00-6:00pm and the dinner and discussion event from 6:00-8:00pm. Please RSVP using the form below or by going to ms50.org/csforum. Mother's Day Celebration

We are celebrating all the mothers, mother-figures, and guardians in our MS 50 Community this Saturday, May 11 from 10:00am-12:00pm! We will be having a breakfast, as well as art activities for mothers and their students to participate in. It will be a great day to celebrate all the wonderful things mothers provide for our community! Please register in advance at ms50.org/mothers

Spring Debate Tournament

Check out some photos from the MS 50 Debate Team’s victorious effort at the Spring NYCPS Literacy Collaborative Debate Tournament! We are so proud of our citywide champion students and all of the hard work they put in this debate season!

Pep Rally

To celebrate the day before Spring Break, more than 200 students from debate, boys and girls basketball, flag football, volleyball, soccer, baseball, softball, mathletes, and cheer ran through banners into a gym filled with cheering students at our Pep Rally! A cheer team performance, three-point shooting contest, and a staff vs student basketball game helped close out a great event. We loved celebrating our students before a well-deserved Spring Break!

Our volleyball team is back in full swing and has played some great matches against teams from around the city! Check out some photos from their match vs. PS 84 on April 16th!

May PTA Meeting at Champions Dinner

The fundraising committee is excited to announce that we have raised $4,545 in our campaign to raise $10,000 for MS 50, and we invite you to be a vital part of this incredible initiative and help us reach our goal!

Information for Senior Dues was sent home last month. 8th grade families please see the attached files for information on payments. Senior Dues are DUE ON MAY 17th.

i-Ready Homework Reminder

One of our goals this year is for every student at MS 50 to complete 30 minutes of i-Ready ELA lessons and 30 minutes of i-Ready math lessons as part of their homework every week. Teachers will check the previous week’s work every Monday. Students can use their @nycstudents account to log into i-Ready by visiting clever.com.


If logging in on an iPad, you must first download and login to the Clever app. You can then launch i-Ready from Clever and students will be logged in. Download this information sheet for more detailed instructions.
