Happy Friday, Everitt families!
I am obsessed with high quality student work this year and plan to share it with you all throughout the year. This week, I am highlighting the work of three students in Ms. Garcia-Lee's Multicultural Literature class. Isabella, Leighton, and Izabella have written powerful "I Am From" pieces that express the amazing people they are in language that is both poignant and intentional. I hope that you enjoy their writing.
We had our first grade level crew today and are grateful to Ms. Galvez-Estevez's crew who led it. In grade level crews, we address grade level issues and celebrate students. Today, we also played a game to connect all of the students to each other. There are some photos of the crew below. We sure love our new 6th graders!
Our first PTA meeting is next Wednesday at 6:30. I hope you will be able to join us. I will be presenting about what one can expect from their middle schooler (middle school development, friendship, intellectual development, etc). You will have a chance to meet our new social emotional learning specialist, Caroline Curtiss. Caroline is wonderful and I know you will love her! In SAC, we will go over some beginning of the year data and talk about our vision for the year.
You can find your child's CMAS scores and MAP scores in student insights (click on the button below). We also have paper copies. If you would like a paper copy, please reach out.
Have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend with your families! Thank you for supporting and believing in your neighborhood school. It is our privilege to partner with you!

Poems by Students in Multicultural Literature Class
Where I’m From
Isabella Viana
I am from coloring books
from markers and colored pencils,
I am from an apartment next to the highway
smells, sounds ,fast cars,
I am from a sunflower and a pine tree next to my apartment,
I am from kind and kitchen tools,
from mom and gramma,
I'm from the helpful and caring,
from sharing is caring and think before you speak,
I'm from loud and funny just like my mom,
I'm from Colorado and Mexico, pozole, tamales,
from the dog biting my brother’s ear,
to the times my brother fell down the hill,
to the shoes in a glass case,
I am from those moments- that brought me here today.
Where I’m From
Izabella Yvete Sena <3
I am from bouncy loom bracelets
From string and rubber bands.
I am from Sunflowers by the fence
Yellow, sunny, happy petals.
Happy yellow flowers.
I am from glitter and pipe cleaners
I am from watching kid movies, and ice cream,
From Mama to Papa.
I am from loud and sarcastic
From “Buh bye!” to “‘girl get outta here”
I am from Churches, crosses, and Bibles.
I am from Colorado and Mexico,
Tacos and hot tamales.
I am from the cold air, which turns warm in summer.
The happy park trips, giggles, and laughter filled air.
My teddy bear flew off the park swing,
screams and laughter caught it.
The brown fur scruffed up, wood chips sticking itself into the fur.
I am from these moments.
Where I Am From
Leighton Riley
I am from pistachio marshmallow pudding,
from fondue pots and cookie sheets.
I am from hammocks and pine trees.
Tall,
Honest,
And rainbow sprinkle pancakes.
I am from mint in the fairy garden, and green grass stained with white lines.
I am from marshmallow wars and snake hunting.
I’m from Tatum and Wren.
I am from the questions and humor,
from crab cakes and love.
I’m from egg hunts and Christmas trees.
I am from Denver Colorado and Irish key chains,
Dairy queen with my grandparents
and lettuce wraps by the fire.
From the story my father told me about the last grizzly bear in Colorado
and the gold statue on a park bench.
I’m from rainbow jello bars,
trying each flavor with joy.
I am from those moments of when we vacationed in Puerto Vallarta
and a bird pitched on my arm.
My family all around me basking in the hot summer sun.
