Ryan's Weekly Family Update
4.23.24
Message from the Principal
Dear Ryan Elementary Community,
Celebrating all students and their learning is an essential part of a focused school community. Congratulations to all of our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students for completing CMAS last week. We are so proud of everyone for persevering through those tests. Our kindergarten through 5th grade students are now preparing to show what they know in reading and math on the end of year assessments for iReady and IXL. These will all be administered by May 7th. On Monday, May 13th we will hold the end of year A.G.E. awards by grade level like we did mid-year. These celebrations will be quick, so we will not invite parents in at this time. Students will come home with their certificates that can be earned for achievement, growth and effort (A.G.E.).
Last week, I sent a long update with details for the 2024-25 school year. As a reminder, if you would like to provide input to help with our class list process, you may add input for every child you have enrolled at Ryan through April 23rd. After this date, this form will only be open for new students. We are unable to accept requests for specific teachers.

Thank you to the parents who serve on this committee and provide input to help us grow.
It’s always a great day to be a Rhino! Go Rhinos!
Sincerely,

BVSD Bike to School Day
In BVSD, we celebrate Bike to School Day a little earlier than the rest of the country. While the national day is celebrated in May, BVSD aligns our celebration with Earth Day in late April. By having an event in April, we hope to encourage more biking and rolling to school for the remainder of the school year. Join us in riding, rolling or walking to school on Bike to School Day.

PTA Update
PTA Community Meeting - Tuesday, April 23, ON ZOOM
Join us for our next community meeting THIS Tuesday, April 23, from 6:30–7:30pm. This meeting will be held ON ZOOM (meeting link), but all members of the Ryan community are welcome to participate! At this meeting, we will be discussing plans for Teacher Appreciation Week and the End-of-Year BBQ, as well as Trivia Night/Auction ROI and future. We hope you'll join us!
Join the PTA Board!
The PTA is looking for two awesome people to join our board next school year! We have openings for a Co-President and a Secretary; both are two-year terms, and you'll be joining our current Co-President and Treasurer. Each year, the PTA supports school activities and programs not currently funded by the BVSD budget, such as funding field trips, supplementing after-school activities, and providing essential supplies and support for classroom instruction. We plan two major fundraising events each school year, and we also help support fun activities at the school like the Fall Festival, STEAM Nights, and more! If you're interested in learning more, please reach out to leadership@ryanelementarypta.org. If you have specific questions about the Secretary position, you can also contact communications@ryanelementarypta.org. Joining the PTA board is a great way to stay connected to the school and its current events!
Message from Ms. Chrystal in the Health Room
Healthy students are better learners, please keep your child home if they feel ill, CDPHE’s Illness Policy for Students and Staff in School and Child Care: Policy
Please remember to send your child a change of clothes, especially in our younger elementary grades but it would be great if every kiddo had a full set of spare clothes in their backpack including socks and underwear. We have all sorts of accidents and often kiddos prefer clothes of their own and don't forget gloves and hats too.
Attendance Announcement
If your child has an appointment during school hours, please ask the medical office for a school excuse note and bring it to the Ryan office.
To report your child's absences, please enter it through your Parent Portal or call the Attendance Line 720.561.7002 and remember to include the REASON FOR THE ABSENCE!
We understand sometimes our students need to be out for an extended period of time. We ask, if you know your child will be out for more than 3 days, to please fill out this form in addition to reporting the absence through the portal or attendance line.
Good habits start early! Research shows regular attendance at school has a DRAMATIC impact on student progress. Please see the How Sick Is To Sick guidelines as well as the BVSD attendance policy.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering is a fun, simple way to get involved within the Ryan community. We have all sorts of opportunities to get involved. Whether you volunteer regularly in your teacher’s classroom or bring treats and coffee to teachers for late start or volunteer for the upcoming book fair, the impact can be huge. Not only does it benefit the school but it benefits your kids and families in our community as well! Please take a moment to explore this link: https://www.bvsd.org/parents-students/get-involved/volunteers you may need the Raptor check or CBI Background fingerprint check. These are both good for 12 months.

We appreciate your help! Thanks!
BVSD's School Messenger support and notifications
Boulder Valley School District recently tested their emergency alert system.
The test alert included a phone call, text message and email to those opted in to receive BVSD Communications.
Users can adjust their communication preferences as desired via these instructions.
If you did not receive a text message, and would like to opt-in to receive text messages from the district and schools through SchoolMessenger, opting-in is a two-step process:
- The person's cell phone number must be in a cell phone field in Infinite Campus (students/parents) or Infor/Lawson (employees).
- They then send a text message from their cell phone to “67587” with the word “yes” in the message. They may opt-out at any time by texting “STOP” to 67587.
