Dear Thornton High School Community:
Welcome to the start of an exciting new school year! As we embark on this journey together, we encourage you to embrace every opportunity for learning and growth. This year is a fresh start, a chance to set new goals, make new friends, and explore new interests. Whether you're stepping into Thornton High School for the first time or returning as an upperclassman, remember that each day is a step toward your future.
Daily attendance plays an important role in your success. Being present every day helps you stay on track with your path to graduation, participate in class discussions, and build strong relationships with teachers and peers. Consistent attendance also sets a positive habit that will benefit you in a job, a trade, college and beyond.
Parents and guardians, your support is invaluable. Let’s stay connected and work together to ensure this year is filled with success, learning, and personal growth.

2024-25 Student Trustees
Student Trustees participate in all discussions and cast advisory votes at meetings. See what student trustees do by watching one of the recorded meetings on the JUHSD YouTube page. Board meetings are open to the public, held every other Tuesday at 7pm.
Staff Spotlight
We welcome English teacher, Sasha "Mr. H" Hnatkovich, to Thornton! Mr. H is a second-career teacher who recently completed the credential program at San Francisco State University. For more than a decade, he's worked in the Bay Area in marketing and public relations for arts organizations, architecture firms, and the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. He became inspired to become a teacher after tutoring students at Mission High School and Everett Middle School through the writing nonprofit 826 Valencia. A fun fact about Mr. H: he was once in a punk band "from the future" that played songs about the impending apocalypse. All the members dressed up to look like they were in a Mad Max movie, even Mr. H.
Community-Based Learning
Ropes Course
We started the year strong with an all-school Ropes Course, led by our Community Environmental Education Program (CEEP) students. Thanks to CEEP alumni Ian, Gitana and Lucas for volunteering to lead. The following day, CEEP teacher Ed Lopez facilitated a debrief to tie themes learned on the course to everyday challenges and successes. For more photos, follow us on Instagram @thorntonsaints
Bookstore Visit
Our school makes an annual visit to the bookstore to promote literacy. Students are tasked with completing a scavenger-hunt worksheet to orient them to the different literary genres and they each select a book that eventually ends up at our school library after they finish reading it.
