STUDENTS PERFORM WELL IN SPANISH LANGUAGE COMPETITION
Congratulations to students Nola Fedderman and Emerie Burda from Spanish II and Ignacio Creamer, Lorna Wiesen, Evelyn Martel, Eliza Aldridge, Molly Rousseau, and Addison Waskiewicz from Spanish I who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2023 National Spanish Examinations!
These students earned 2 silver and 1 bronze medal along with 5 honorable mentions. “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Lisa Greenman, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with nearly 85,000 students participating in 2023.”
Students from Leland Public School have a long history of high achievement on these exams.
The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. For more information, visit www.aatsp.org.
The LPS National Honor Society volunteered for the Leelanau Conservancy today at the Village Green. They helped set up for this weekend's potted plant sale to help make it a quick endeavor!
Later in the day, NHS members bonded by brainstorming the service and leadership projects they anticipate next school year and learned how to make zucchini chocolate muffins. We hope to see muffins like these at NHS bake sales next year!
LSC shows off hard earned gold medals at Cherry Capital Cup over the weekend. 6 Leland teams took home gold, 1 silver.

After two years of all students being allowed to eat school meals for free, due to COVID, the
USDA removed the waiver and families that don’t meet strict income thresholds are now
responsible for paying for their meals again. Many families are facing growing negative account
balances, and simply do not have the means to pay for their children’s breakfasts and lunches.
Leland Public School’s Food Service Department has an Angel Account set up for anyone who
would like to make a donation to help students with meal debt. With your help, we know that we
can make a big difference! By making an anonymous monetary donation to the Angel Account,
you would become one of our angels, and make a difference in the life of a student today.
Donating is simple:
1. Go to https://leland.familyportal.cloud/
2. Click “my account,” and log in with your email address and password. If you do not have
a family portal account follow the prompts to set one up.
3. Under “My Account” click “Add Person”
4. ID Number: 7777
First Name: Account
Last Name: Angel
Birthdate: 01/01/2020
5. Under “My Account” click “Deposit” and follow the prompts.
The funds will immediately be available for the food service department to disperse to those
families in the most need.
We can also take a cash or check (made payable to Leland Public School) donation that can be
dropped off at the main office.
You can email Food Service Director Shawna Seitter @ sseitter@lelandschool.com if you are
interested in donating your leftover lunch balance at the end of the school year!
The food service department sends you a big THANK YOU for considering helping our students in need.

Move This World - Social Emotional Learning
Dear Families,
To support our students’ social emotional needs and mental health, we are using a video-based social emotional learning (SEL) curriculum from Move This World. I’m excited to share that you’ll be able to access this helpful curriculum at home, too!
Social emotional learning is how students learn to process and manage emotions as well as important social skills. It includes everything from goal setting to stress management, and it provides both children and adults with tools they can use to express themselves authentically and safely. SEL helps students build healthy relationships, communicate effectively, and live a meaningful life.
Below, you’ll find log in instructions:
Visit: sel.movethisworld.com
Username: leland.family
Password: movethisworld
Practicing social emotional learning at home can help your students:
Identity and recognize their emotions.
Build critical social skills.
Connect with themselves and others.
Navigate challenges they may be experiencing.
Adjust to the new school year.
Move This World is a social emotional learning program delivered through an extensive online library of PreK-12 videos and resources rooted in creative expression that help students, teachers and staff develop a common language to improve communication and build trust. We’re so glad that you’ll be able to access Move This World videos and resources at home, and hope they are helpful for your students and family.
Learn more about how it works here.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions!
