Grade 9 Farewell
Spring is upon us, and the end of the school year is fast approaching. This leads us to the time of saying farewell to our Grade Nine students, as it is their last year in middle school and they will be venturing off to new challenges. With that, we wish them well and would like to celebrate this accomplishment with them on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 & Thursday, June 6th, 2024.
On Tuesday, June 4th, there will be a Grade 9 barbecue for lunch and afternoon activities planned outdoors for the afternoon. Regular classes will be taking place in the morning blocks. Students are required to come and participate in this day, just as any other school day. We would like to give them an opportunity to celebrate together in community with their full class of peers for the afternoon. We will be requiring parent help. All volunteers must have their Criminal Record check and volunteer form completed in the office. Here are some of the activities planned for the afternoon:
Water stations
Sports stations such as: spikeball, basketball, bennis, crossnet
Minute to Win It Games
Art stations
Games
Tug-o-War
Treat station
Farewell, this year, will end with the Farewell liturgy at St. Mary’s Church from 5pm to 6:30pm on Thursday, June 6th. Following the liturgy students will be presented with certificates and reminisce as they watch a video capturing highlights of their grade 9 year There will be decorations set up in the church hall for photo opportunities after the liturgy.
These celebrations are often a very memorable time for our students. As they are school events, we always have high expectations for behaviour and respect for self and others. Participation in these activities is based on these expectations, which St. Francis’ students generally model with pride.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact any of the grade 9 team members for additional information.
In Christ,
The Grade 9 Team
Mrs. Amber Lansing, Ms. Lada Karpova, Mrs. Megan MacLure, Mr. Tyler LaGrange, Mrs. Kathryn Pasiuk,

PAT Schedule 2024
Provincial Achievement Tests Schedule 2024
New for the 2023-2024 School Year
Alberta Education has announced changes to the Grade 6 Provincial Achievement Test schedule. Grade 6 English language arts and literature and math provincial achievement tests will not be administered in the 2023-2024 school year. Alberta Education will instead offer field testing between April and June 2024. These optional field tests will help inform the development of future PATs for Grade 6 English language arts and literature and mathematics that align with the new curriculum in these subjects.
St. Francis of Assisi Middle School will participate in the Grade 6 English language arts and literature, and mathematics field tests. Please see information from grade 6 teachers as to when the field testing will occur at St. Francis of Assisi Middle School in May and June.

What are Provincial Achievement Tests?
Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) are administered yearly to all Alberta students in Grades 6 and 9. These standardized tests reflect the essentials that all Alberta students are expected to achieve, regardless of school choice or location. The tests take place in May, and June for English, math, science, and social studies. Grade 9 achievement tests based on the Knowledge and Employability programs of study in English language arts, math, science, and social studies are also administered.
Provincial Achievement Tests help
determine if students are learning what they are expected to learn
report to Albertans how well students have achieved provincial standards at given points in their schooling
assist schools, authorities, and the province in monitoring and improving student learning
